Re: Be careful when launching! (Or an accident may happen)

You and Toylet say, "well, just sheet out and everything is OK." I say, there are so many common scenarios where sheeting out leads to disaster, plus you have no time to make a choice. So I conclude, your only way to keep your ass out of trouble is a routine whereas you automatically go to safety w...

Re: wave sailing vs. kitesurfing

how about comparing some freestyle as well. heres a pretty decent windsurfing one to start... Man that's some insane footage, can't keep up with all the new tricks people are inventing!! :o Might as well include a little speed footage while we're at it!! :thumb: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXJjt...

Re: Be careful when launching! (Or an accident may happen)

no...as a rider, I make sure that the launcher checks my bridles and have never give the signal to release until everything looks good to me and to the launcher. there are times something just doesn't look right and I'll have them double check. It's the riders responsibility mostly to make sure eve...

Re: Be careful when launching! (Or an accident may happen)

I'd guess kite dependant many people launch suicide, but those of us who do therefore have to be more cautious about our launch, kite setup and conditions. Same for those who use older cars without ABS and other safety features. Since the newer "safer" kites have arrived people take far greater risk...

Re: Be careful when launching! (Or an accident may happen)

Don't know if we're talking about the same thing... pulling the QR means kite goes to leash. the maximum distance the kite can go downwind is 25 meters. These 25 meters must be clear when you launch. If you pretend people are kiting without leash... remeber Silke Gorldt? she got killed by a runaway...

Re: Be careful when launching! (Or an accident may happen)

This is BS. If you launch in such a way that you are upwind of "innocent bystanders" in the possible way of your lines in case you blotch the launch and / or have to pull QR, you are making something SERIOUSLY wrong. I know that on many crowded spots people give a flying f*** and launch and drop th...

Re: Be careful when launching! (Or an accident may happen)

I hope the rider is OK, but the responsibility lies with the rider. when setting up, riders should be too far downwind so the kite is flapping as you check your lines, etc. Then, the rider should move upwind until the kite stops flapping and then give the launcher a signal to let go. then...if some...

Re: wave sailing vs. kitesurfing

windsurfing in big waves is way harder than kitesurfing in big waves. To do an aerial off the lip as a windsurfer in big waves you need a lot of experience and very big balls. Kitesurfing makes it way easyer and within reach of many. So true!! The same waves you were out playing on with a kite sudd...

Re: How 'HIGH' can you get? Should be higher than a foil !

that is some hairy riding and big boosting no doubt. But to think about estimating height, also think about angles. Camera lens effect often makes jumps look bigger -wide angle lens exaggerates the height, and telephoto lens flattens the picture hiding the fact that the rider is often approaching a...

Re: Is Eclipse going bust ?

so you are not allowed to say anything to support the initial poster unless you own eclipse kites? not sure where you got that idea from my post?? I'm just stating generally the forum is a place where people bash products with baseless reasons. ..I am 100% sure that you both have responded to in th...
