Re: How to be affective in Very deep powder.

Optimizing wax, wider board, wider stance are all good ideas but deep powder is just really a problem, more so in that we get so turned on by it because it's the best for downhill but really it is a mismatch with a snowboard. Think about how a snowboard works downhill, it's carve, flatten, carve. Sp...

Re: Interesting upwind technique

on the subtlety front, I'm sure that at least one person is thinking "What these guys are talking about is simply what I call kiteboarding" - kind of interesting though that lovethepirk finds it to be a thing, a somewhat revelatory thing to ask if anyone else has seen it - and I'm sure he's a solid ...

Re: Interesting upwind technique

I have done that a bit but only when wind is super light. I do that too but not just in light wind, it actually ties into mid wind and kite size choice too. I don't think it's directly about upwind but more about on demand speed which then translates into upwind in this instance but also means come...

Re: How many days of good Hfoiling conditions do you have

Apart from you and Plummet who got respectively straight onshore superlight winds with breaking waves, and huge winds and huge waves and "foam soup" - I dont know any other who whines about their conditions ??? I'm not whining. I had a lot of fun with the learning and riding, full stop. Everyone ha...

Re: How many days of good Hfoiling conditions do you have

"Bad" hydrofoil conditions are when extremely low depth FAR FAR out (and not really bad, just takes longer to get out), or if many hidden rocks just below the surface, or extreme shorebreak dumpers and onshore (but such conditons are not good for waveboards either, just drive a bit up or down the c...

Re: my learning progession on a hydrofoil

Yeah, more riding would help answer the questions. However my season went severely south here last summer- August is the month I anticipated doing most of my foiling in because the daybreeze wanes a bit through the summer and we get a lot of twelve knot days. This year I did almost zero riding in Au...

Re: my learning progession on a hydrofoil

It will also happen to me with no swell, although maybe with no swell it's more about looseness or instability and not having the same range of movement so I can wobble just by exceeding a limit on pressure somewhere in stance/angle/weighting. I guess one thing we know is that it's speed related, I ...

Re: my learning progession on a hydrofoil

I get that same wobble on my MHL when downwinding, it seems like it comes when I'm heading directly downwind or biased slightly toeside. Kind of like a boat with a following wave on it's quarter although I don't think it's swell and the fact that it seems like it's more in the toeside makes me think...

Re: where is kiting at - industry

unfortunately this model means new people look, they see, they walk away without asking question Super true - if you went by google search info you would think that you were in for thousands and thousands. Alternately, in the used market, you could get a few kites/bars suitable for learning for und...

Re: where is kiting at - industry

I wonder a little bit if the maturity of the sport and the regimented path that most people take to get in is working to hold potential serious kiters out while letting non-continuers through the filter. I teach on the water and snow, not a whole lot because conditions are hit and miss where I live ...
