Re: We need the whole kite communities help!

How much did you pay to get the IKO card at Crandon? Not sure what the breakdown was, but it was 40 bucks for me to ride there that day, it was also super lightwind, empty, and I was one of the only ones out on a 20m ultralight with a tiny 130tt, and one other rider on a 19m core, so that might hav...

Re: Is the rise of foiling affecting the sales of big light wind kites?

The super fast gigantic race foils that have become popular for foil racing are also awesome for snowkiting. I would think the sales of those is going to continue to go up, especially with the ultra light versions that float in the air when a lightwind specific LEI drops out of the sky due to the ex...

Re: Suggestion for a quiver

I love a biggish foil for light wind. Low end can’t be beaten and really easy to self-launch and land, plus much less likely to fall out if the sky if wind gets really light. Cons: expensive, require a different skill set. Yep, once you get used to a giant foil, board choice pretty much becomes irr...

Re: We need the whole kite communities help!

Signed, didn't have IKO till my last trip down there as I usually would ride further north where it isn't required. Put off getting it for three years taking trips down there and just riding other beaches. I got it last time at Miami Kiteboarding to ride Crandon, was quick and easy to get and that's...

Re: best SUP for super light wind kiting

Anyone ever try one of those boards that functions as a SUP, Windsurf board, foil SUP and windsurf foil board? In the summer my local lake allows SUP and windsurfing but no kiting as the water is always freezing and no swimming is allowed. I could see a SUP foil board being pretty fun with a kite, a...

Re: best foil kite for gusty conditions

The QUESTION is the problem https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirmative_conclusion_from_a_negative_premise?wprov=sfti1 There is NO “best foil kite for gusty conditions!” Foil kites, aka “ram airs,” are aerodynamically INFERIOR compared to inflatables, particularly in gusts. Please let me know if yo...

Re: New board advice? CF Raptor LTD?

Went with a 2017 elite since they were on sale and only 150 more than the 2018 ltd raptors. The 132 was sold out so went with the 136, I think it will be close to 2lbs lighter than my 130 board lol. I'm a sucker for carbon fiber and looks like they use the same stuff on the top sheet as the high end...

Re: best foil kite for gusty conditions

Also, once you learn how to fly a foil in light wind (they like to keep moving) you'll be able to keep a small 6m or 7m foil in the air when a 15m LEI won't stay up, as far as specific kites, the lower end of any ultralight kite is pretty amazing.

Re: best foil kite for gusty conditions

I think flying technique matters way more than a specific kite, for foils some generic tips for gusty conditions (the norm where I live in the mountains). If it's gusty, look upwind for snownadoes and dodge them, they will collapse your canopy. If it's real gusty and frequently cutting out between g...
