RSI has had their Sheet Cleat System out for some time. It allows a rider to be in trim loop and "lock in" at any point on the range of the bar without pulling a strap. Great for tricks and comfortable cruising. However, I've heard mixed reviews on how well the Sheet Cleat actually performs. Now Fly...

More riders are using some version of this type of system. Has anyone used the new Flysurfer Quick Release yet? How do they perform? Here is link to see. http://www.flysurferusa.com/ Many people also use the Tyleska shackle: http://www.northshoreinc.com/kitebar&access.html I'm trying to decide which...

I wanted to have impact protection in my kite vest. I did quite a bit of looking around the internet to find the best one for kiteboarding. I found it in a U.S. Coast Guard approved flotation device made by Stohlquist. This PFD (personal flotation device)was originally designed for kayakers and such...

Kiteboarding associations are surely one of the best lines of defense we have in protecting our beach access rights, worldwide. These groups are actively promoting a kiteboarding culture of safety that is on a par with other high risk technical sports. They are also working with the public and gover...

Toby, thanks for all the great info you're always posting. It really keeps the quality of content high on the forum. One of the main internet weather tools I use is the ASOS. Here, you can see current wind wind speed/direction and review the hourly wind speeds for the 24 hour period. Below is a link...

I'm pretty sure that Naish Hawaii has them. Try phoning them at 1-800-767-6068. They are open 9-5:30 Hawaii time. This time of year Hawaii time is two hours behind Pacific Standard time. They also have an online store but no exact details on what bladders are in stock. Same with Kiteworld. Call toll...

Agreed. However, I've noticed that some of the worst violations of safety protocol are done by experienced kiters. Someone said here ealier that overconfidence is the biggest cause of incidents. I would agree with that and add that over-inflated egos seem to be a major problem, as well. Some guys ju...

VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: Is one of the reasons these panic loops (locking shackles) are being used so that you can remove the kite leash and spin the bar to untangle crossed lines? Please can you tell me if kiteboarders are using panic loops instead of kite leashes? I think this is very important. I...

Hey Marina, thanks for the info. Can you direct me to a retailer and/or to additional info on the shackles you mentioned? Also can you tell me what you mean by the eight-knot? Toby, thanks for your help and for the lead on the Flysurfer quick release. Does anyone know of an American website with mor...
