Re: what Air lines to use ? USA- Cape Town in January

The "golf bag" is hit or miss with United. I've done it about 10 times and made it free 8 and the other 2 were $250 each way. Ouch! It seems its the mood of the gate agent. Lately I bring kites and rent a board unless it's a long stay and worth the risk. I might try this flight in January too. Usua...

Re: what Air lines to use ? USA- Cape Town in January

My understanding is that Lufthansa got quite expensive all of a sudden for kite gear. If you are coming to Cape Town and want to rent kitesurf gear, we intend to have the following to rent this year (all Duotone, our rental partner): Neos: 7, 8 & 9 (this year's - 2019/20) Evos 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10) (this...

Re: what Air lines to use ? USA- Cape Town in January

Re South African ... it is a loss-making airline that gets frequent bailouts from the SA government. If you fly them I would book with a credit card or some other way that gives you protection if they go bust. Also note that changing in Johannesburg can be a bit of a hassle -- if you miss the connec...

Yes - United Airlines have announced flights to Cape Town: https://www.forbes.com/sites/geoffwhitmore/2019/04/18/united-airlines-nonstop-flights-to-cape-town-are-coming-soon/#57427ae51b17 British Airways might also work well. You get 1x23kg on all but the most basic fare and the charge to upgrade to...

Re: Cheap place to kite Dec, Jan, Feb (Maui alternative)

Kayak, Expedia etc. are currently showing flights from Toronto to Cape Town, South Africa for C$734 - C$850 depending on airline. Long flight (some of them change in London UK) but not crazy expensive. United Airlines have started flying direct to Cape Town from New York ... may be worth checking th...

Sponsored/subsidised accommodation for young guns in Cape Town

It's that time of year where we scout for riders to take up a sponsored/subsidised spot at Cape Town Kite Club. The deal is we take one of our lovely rooms and drop the price 80% for 3 lucky riders. You will be at university/college, travelling the world just after university/college or maybe an ins...

Re: Woo fixes the terminal corrosion problem in a surprising way

My electric toothbrush is 100% waterproof and has wireless (induction) charging - why can't the Woo have the same?

Well if we are restricting it to cities it has to be Cape Town and Perth.

Re: Best city in world for kitesurf vacation

Not sure Prea/Jericoacoara counts as "a city" but if we are allowed to suggest rural spots then the Island of Anglesey is pretty good in North Wales. Rhosneigr is world class with waves out the back (full ocean swell … over the horizon is S America) and sections of flat at the front. Cover wind dire...

Re: South Africa first timer

Just to add some detail that might be useful: Hotels: in the last two months the Blouberg Beach Hotel opened right next to Doodles. That is the building that stood empty for many years and finally got finished. It is right opposite the beach. Not heard any reviews yet. https://blaauwbergbeachhotel.c...
