Re: South Africa: Nov - Jan, what kite size?

For those months and 70 kgs I would recommend 5 & 7/8m or 6 and 8/9m. If you have the weight allowance your third kite would be 11/12m.

Any other questions let me know.

Re: UK in April

Hi Ross - April can be a very windy month. The Western side can be almost as windy as Ireland - windier in fact sometimes in the Irish Sea as you get a venturi effect as Ireland and the UK pinch together in a triangle shape. So, yes, if you can take your kite gear without extra expense (or the forec...

Re: Kite Vacation / Locations with wife that doesnt kite

Lots to do in Cape Town for the non-kiter: Sport: World class cycling (get up early for cool temps and avoid the wind) including the famous "Cape Argus" route up Chapman's peak. Good cycle lanes and many many groups who ride if you want to cycle with others. Good tennis courts, good gyms; local Virg...

Re: Belgian kiter (64) found dead after a night long search - Netherlands

Yeah but of your being dragged offshore by your kite would you a) stay hooked in and hope for rescue. you could be 30 miles out to sea before anyone knows your missing. B) ditch the kite and attempt to swim in? Which chance has the greatest success? I think i would roll with swim in rather than wai...

Re: Alternatives to Brazil end October beginning of November

Hi Toby & others - Cape Town is in fact windier in November than it is January. See the statistics here: https://www.windfinder.com/windstatistics/big_bay * * This shows % days > Bft. 4 and average wind strength. Windfinder averages wind between 07.00 - 19.00. The effective wind is more since in Cap...

New kitesurf world record

Surprised none of the official organisers have posted yet but this Sunday a new world record was set for the most number of kitesurfers to "parade" (the word they use) over a fixed distance (about a quarter mile I think). The record was set on Sunday afternoon at Hayling Island in the UK. 423 kiters...

Re: Brancaster Beach, Norfolk, UK

The London group is greatly reinvigorated in recent times which has its pluses and minuses. I am for the time being one of the directors/organisers of the new BKSA Affiliated Club we have set up. We will arrange to re-mail our members next time there is a SW to remind them of the Brancaster zoning. ...

Re: Kiteboarding in Saudi Arabia? For women? Serious?

This doesn't look plausible. I am recently back from Saudi on a business trip. As far as I can make out: 1. Women who go out in Saudi have to be chaperoned by a man. 2. Go out hair uncovered and legs showing in Jeddah and you will get hissed at. Try the same in Riyadh and you will be detained by the...

Re: Strength V weight for holding down power.

Both are a factor. I have lots of guests at my kite house. For sure the 6ft 2" / 90 kgs guys can hold down more than the 5' 4" / 60 kg. gals, even if the latter are fitter. But I have been going to the gym lots over the last year and converted a lot of fat to muscle (same weight). And I can definite...

Re: Expats and lifestyle numbers growing?

A few years back I decided I wanted to do something different rather than work away until 65 (or is it 67 now), collect my gold watch and retire. So I planned ahead and set up the Cape Town Kite Club lodge business and grew it up to the point where it is (almost!) breaking even. Then last December I...
