Re: How much are old kites holding me back?!

Be careful with older speeds, I had one and it flew like crap. I wouldn’t have dreamed about using it on the water. For your budget see if you can find a HQ Matrixx. The 15 has a great wind range and is really stable and easy to fly. The only thing you might find hard to get used to is the very low ...

Re: How much are old kites holding me back?!

Whilst in their day they were both great kites, even by 2008 kites had moved on quite a bit. Newer kites will give you much more depower, better stability, upwind etc. They’ll just do everything better. There probably hasn’t been as much advance in the past five years, but compared to yours newer ki...

Re: Any self taught out there?!

I’m self taught, but had been land boarding with kites for years before, so I had very good kites skills and had used all kinds of kites. Because of that I found the transition very easy, and our local spots are nice, safe sandy bays. However, flying a kite static is very different to flying one on ...

Re: Vacuum pumps

I presume there are laws in NZ about degassing of fridges and not just releasing ozone depleting gasses into the atmosphere?

Re: Best kites for traveling?

Well that's what I'm getting at, it needs to be for a mix of destinations and therefore styles. Some will be flat water some waves, but nothing massive.
So general freeride kit. There's got to be compromises in there, so what do you sacrifice?

Best kites for traveling?

Over the next few years I plan on doing more traveling with my kit, but want to keep things small and light. A split board will be a must. I already own a 17m strutless kite that packs real small, but was thinking about other kites. Obvious options are strutless, one strut, or foil kite? I'd like to...

Re: RRD Obsession with different bar?

I am now flying all my RRD's (from 2012 on) on the global V7 bar which has chanced to low split and single line flag, all work fine with no difference in flight characteristics. The only difference I've noticed is that it feels harder to pull depower on when I need to. So they seem to work fine on a...
