Re: Mauritius August _Belle Mare

The first year we had 14 days holiday and two days of wind. The second year 14 days holiday and 12 days of wind. Wind starts light in the morning building during the day, dropping off in the evenings. very true - if you just want wind and flat water, there are many places that are more consistent. ...

Re: How much do top riders make?

my impression from the few I've met is the main reward is the paid travel to top places with new gear. As for drones, the tech is there already to pull you with a drone. it is just too expensive and energy inefficient. but this would be like being pulled by a remote-controlled or automatically-contr...

Re: The craziness is underway in Cape Town

= Eduardo, I was a professor at the University of Illinois for 31 years, so the past 10 years once I was good enough, I've been able to come to Cape Town each summer for at least a month over the winter holidays in Illinois. Re: The craziness is underway in Cape Town

Thanks Hugh2. Great to hear trip reports while they are underway. Any pictures to share?

Also, your profile says you are from Illinois. wow - a long way. Great that you managed such a trip and to stay a long time. Any secret sauce to share as to how to make that work half way around the world?

Re: Anyone else have yearly stats to share?

Got stuck for work for 8 months without kite gear. Work is a big kite session killer! Or living in non-windy places or places with a short season. My personal record is 60 days/year. Would be great to live somewhere and have the work schedule where kiting is the after work fun. And also workout ins...

Re: Mauritius August _Belle Mare

You should double check the Le Morne flat water spot. Once you get up wind of the lessons and the show offs, there is plenty of room & very flat water. The only 'killer chop' is much farther out and in the channel and only in more on-shore days. Watch this video 2:56-4:00. That is flat! I don't know...

Re: Maui

There are a couple places that rent kites (and boards) in case you need a 6 or 5, which is common in Maui. But they will be gone early in the morning with a good forecast so don't be late... I only remember one 'adventure sports maui' but google should find 1 or 2 more for you. I don't want to start...

Re: Hydrofoiling in 10 knots - Is it that hard?

10 knots /= 10 knots It is tough to compare light winds on an international forum. For example 10 knots measured at the beach on a handheld or 10 knots at the government station on a 10 meter pole? In our locale, 10 knots south wind is doable but 10 knots on a north has lulls that will drop a light...
