Re: (How not to?) Deal with 40 kt.+ sudden winds

I can't think on why any well experienced long term kiter would say to keep your kite flying in 40 kt.+ winds to the kiting population at large. If they were aware of all the fatalities and severe accidents and the blinding speed at which things happen at times in them, the best action is to act bef...

Re: (How not to?) Deal with 40 kt.+ sudden winds

Punch out early. Someone is seriously saying to keep flying your kite if hit with 40 + knot winds and folks are saying, yes, that makes sense? Hit your QR, both if necessary and don't stand there "waiting on your fate." Companies have been working hard for almost 20 years to make QR that work to kil...

Re: Storm Hannah

High sustained winds are one thing, winds which go from 12 kts. to 50 kts. in a few seconds are quite another. North Sea storms can cause the former, thunderstorms or squalls the later. Fatalities and injuries have happened with both but more so in the sudden violence of thunderstorms/squalls. So, s...

Re: New to this, is it realistic to teach myself?

Best advice, find the best pro lessons that you can for many excellent reasons. There is a lot more to it than just flying a kite on land.

Where do you live?

(How not to?) Deal with 40 kt.+ sudden winds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foHSB2EcqMU The video provides a good review of techniques we learned in both hard and easy ways back in the two and four line LEI days for trying to manage in overpowered conditions. It recommends things equivalent to "keep it low and go" during launching. It talks a...

Re: Why do schools keep using the seat harness in lessons but most people use waist?

I would have quit kiting 20 years ago if all I had to use was a waist harness. Have no back issues whatsoever even with all day kiting sessions with a seat harness. Why do so many people use waist harnesses when some may well "waste" their backs in time?

Kiting into trouble on an otherwise excellent day in the Bahamas

Here is a intense story about an epic kiting session in distant part of paradise suddenly dropping into a far less fun and seriously dangerous place. It is related by Sergio Bacic's Beach Ambassador for Adventure Sports Ft. Lauderdale. He is a very experienced waterman with lots of time in the Baham...

Re: Dakine XT vs Dakine Fusion

I've gone through four Fusions, changing them out after three or so years. They work well for me.

I read something yesterday that hydrofoil kiters benefit from going from waist harnesses to seat harnesses, true?

Re: Lauderdale wind late March - and site for foiling?

Guys, I wouldn't encourage more folks to hit the Dania Pier and for lots of reasons you likely know. We have caused some issues with the lifeguards that has kiting in general under scrutiny. The launch is small, strewn with beach goers and in marginal winds (high or low from the wrong directions it ...

Re: Lauderdale wind late March - and site for foiling?

Have to travel there late march for business. Do I stay the weekend to foil? Skunk odds? Locations and access? March is one of our better wind months, so if the forecast close to three days out supports it, go for it. I recommend kiting further north to avoid access issues. I would consider kiting ...
