Steve, I agree that this seems like a nice way to go - like the powder leashes for skis that don't tie on to your leg (because of similar dangers) but have devices to make them float on the top of the snow. I think that your idea could be _combined_ with a reel leash, so that this eergency system ki...

wakeskate shoes? anyone using?

I look down on my foot in plaster and think about equipment changes for when i get back onto the water. I thought i'd start wearing shoes (and not jsut booties) , not only to avoid damage from the board, but also for greater control at take-off and against bottles, cans etc underwater. Does nayone h...

I use re-launchable foils, but occasionally, when the wind has been particularly big or gusty, I've used my land based, non-relaunchable foils - a 4.9 Blade I and a tiny 3.1 Advance Thetis (all with quad lines). I feel I have pretty good control of these kites - on land at least - but to date, my ex...

I carry the Da Kine hook knife in the back of the harness and occasionally fumble around my back side to see if I could get hold of it in an emergency.

I like the idea of having several locations with knives. Where else have kiteboarders placed hook-knives for fast access :?:

Mel, You are probably right that the snagging happened after a previous fall, and that i did not notice it - i guess i should take that away as 1 lesson - if the leash is on, make sure from time to time that is it also unsnagged. The thought about a bright floating reel was this - if the reel releas...

I was the ikitesurf poster to whom the accident happened that set this thread off. I've only just discovered the forum... The leash is an Ocean Technology (Oceanus?), San Diego leash. By the way, quite apart from any issues with blocking, the clip it uses corodes and gets stiff very fast in salt wat...

Broken Foot, 3rd Ave, thanks for the help, guys

(I've posted this already on foilpilot and ikitesurf, but i just discovered the amount of traffic on kiteforum - i'm posting again because i wanted to maximise the chance that my thanks to get back to the 4 kitesurfers who helped me out - i can't drive down to 3rd ave to thank them in person for ano...

Last time i looked at palo alto, there was a big sign on the park by the shore saying: "low flying aircraft, no kites". The airport is right on the bay, and is quite busy with the recreational flights of all the dot comers who made it. Third avenue (san mateo bridge) is probably the closest widely u...
