Re: Trainer kite to teach daughter

Picked up a 3M best Guroo... Hard to find, but it's a similar design to the Waroo without one pump and reinforcements on the LE for handling the inevitable crashes. My priorities were actual 4 line control and water relaunch capability.

Re: 2013 Envy bridle mod

I second the LW setting recommendation; my 15 Envy for sure responds better to steering input when sheeted in. It's a dog trying to initiate a turn with the kite depowered.

You will rarely if ever find the right hardware at a Lowes or Home Depot (big box hardware store). I have had great luck at Ace Hardware and West Marine stores for the stainless steel metric hardware, though.

Re: When you want the best quality lines.....

Ultrex 12 1/16th has the 800 lb breaking strength, the 1/8 inch is 1900 lb.

Maybe for a center line, but not for flying lines.

Re: Photos - Key West & Kiting The Flats At Christmas

Wish I had paid that for mine, but I still don't regret the purchase. Yeah, these are all manual zoom except for the 10-100mm power zoom lens (which has the zoom control on the side of the lens). So if that is important to you, it would be a deal killer. Still, for most fast action shots, it's hard ...

Re: Photos - Key West & Kiting The Flats At Christmas

Rick, Kind of off topic, but on one of your pics you mentioned that his iPhone was faster than your Canon G12. I had one of those for a couple of years and sold it because of the agonizingly slow response and write times. If you are looking for a fast and portable camera, check out the Nikon 1 Serie...

Re: Inflatable LEI Trainers

I picked up a new old stock Best Guroo 3M for around $300. Use it with a standard 4 line bar for my daughter to get the hang of flying a "real" kite. Much more useful than the SS foil trainer she had been using. I find them to be fairly well behaved as long as the wind is at least 12, and I don't le...

Re: To undo a knot or not?

I had one on a center line that I worked on for about 20 minutes last night. Chewed on it and worked on it gently with a needle to open it up a bit and it finally came out. Didn't think it would, but keep working it and they all come out eventually.
