Re: Light Air Foiling in Waves on Maui

Another recent video from Alex. Thanks Ronnie, here it is on the page . Toby gave me instructions on how to imbed it directly which I could not figure out yesterday. I'll make a separate post of this one. It has some good audio while I am riding, kind of a foiling tutorial.. http://www.youtube.com/...

Besides being slow to stay on the wave, what else does a good surffoil do? Bryan Lake and I ride the same bigger front wing which is a lower aspect usually slower foil...

Re: Competitive speeds?

do you guys have any mobile phone app or do you use any special gps device to measure VMG? any recomendations on both? I am not sure but I think the GPS phone apps are a little suspect and give out some bad data like you are going 35 knots when really you are hitting around 24. The GT 31 by Locosys...

Re: Competitive speeds?

To get the record back I think we will have to actually get out of the water like Vestas sail rocket did. That will take a whole lot of rethinking and testing. The smaller 3 fin boards are approaching 50 knots very rapidly though as Rob and Jamie Douglas hit 46 and 45 V max's last week in Marthas Vi...

Re: Competitive speeds?

As stated earlier as a quote by Johnny Heineken that boards are going around 28 knots downwind, he is probably referring to max downwind angles on the course. To achieve higher speeds on your courseboard in the mid 30's, you would need to go slightly higher than this angle and have good wind. Of cou...

Re: IKA new course racing equipment for 2013

I was under the impression that most of the issues regarding the approved race boards was poor manufacturing quality and continuity rather than strength of the actual boards? (fin box misalignment, delamination in fatigue prone and high strain areas, bad dimensioning etc.). Upping the weight is mos...
