Re: 5th line on a light-wind kite in marginal conditions?

Ok, I am still not convinced. Suppose wind is very light and the kite is downwind of me, leading edge down (and it is 4 line kite). I can't speak about all makes and models, but for Ozone Zephyr and Catalyst pulling one of the back lines works very well - kite easily turns its leading edge to the si...

Re: 5th line on a light-wind kite in marginal conditions?

I have changed my bar from quad to fifth to help me. I found very difficult to relaunch dyno 18 in marginal winds without fifth line. So what exactly do you do with the 5th line to relaunch what would not be possible with 4 lines? Maybe these relaunch qualities are different from kite to kite, but ...

Re: 5th line on a light-wind kite in marginal conditions?

I don't think the 5th line gives any advantages in such situations for relaunching, I would say it provides some extra safety in strong winds. It may also help if you need to roll up lines and use your kite as a floating device. I have used both a 5 line kite (North Rebel 16m) and 4 line (Ozone Zeph...

Re: good kite for one-handed steering ?

Ozone Catalyst is a very stable and well-behaved kite with light bar pressure.

Re: North Rhino '06 Bar

Can anybody say if the North bar(5 lines) will fit with newer kites? Or there are only specific range of kites which can be fitted with this bar? It will work with newer North kites that can be used with 5 lines. Can't tell about other brands that have 5-line systems. It will not work with 4-lines-...

Re: North Rebel 2007

I own 3 North kites from 2007 including a Rebel (though of a larger size); have not had any general reliability or quality problems with them. So if you like North kites in general, this particular year should be fine too. Most of fixing I have done on my kites has been related to valves (some air l...

Re: North Dyno 2012

Does it have one-pump system or one needs to inflate all 8 points?

Re: Underground Race Board 2012

I wonder about that volume spec - 210 liters. It means that in most places the board would need to be around 20cm thick. If I look at Mikes lab page ( http://mikeslab.com/kbL12.htm ) the board does not look that thick.

Re: Props to Naish and Venturi questions

Thanks for the answers, I am really interested to try (just need to wait until all ice melts...). I am also considering alternatives, e.g a 'freerace' board like airush sector or north freerace, or a race twintip like flysurfer flyrace. But in this I guess one only knows his preferences by testing i...

Re: Slow 7m kite

Flying speed depends a lot on the setup; a depowered kite may get very jumpy, a powered one is usually slower. I have a 7m Rhino that used to be very scary with my usual bar and line length setup. I added about 10cm to front lines and now the kite is much more controllable and has steadier pull.
