Re: Torn biceps tendon, perhaps holding bar incorrectly

Thanks again Grizwald, you are a fount of information and I hope this thread helps others avoid or deal with similar injuries. This whole business sucks big time. I had heard of the pain pumps and asked for one, but my hospital says they only allow them for inpatients. Having experienced this pain, ...

Re: What's your yearly kite budget?

i'm starting to lose track of my kite history, but the other day wrote what i can recall down. came to 27 kites, 12 boards, seven bars, and five harnesses in 15 years. 2020 was among the most expensive at $3000 for a new 2020 Naish Pivot 10m, used 2016 6m Pivot, a used slingshot alien air foil board...

Re: Torn biceps tendon, perhaps holding bar incorrectly

IMG_1287.jpg Public service announcement. Don't paint ceilings like this. i did six of them, two coats each. get a long-handle roller at least, preferably pay someone else! definitely not when you are 64. before that in the summer i scraped, sanded, and painted my garage, and in the fall the same o...

Re: Torn biceps tendon, perhaps holding bar incorrectly

Thanks for that, Grizwald. indeed it was the supraspinatus that was completely torn loose and the surgeon estimates up to 12 month old injury, which coincides with painting ceilings in cape town last december. i'm just surprised that pain only started mid-June. anyway, muscle had retracted a lot, so...

Re: Torn biceps tendon, perhaps holding bar incorrectly

Thanks all, i still will try to go overhand on my right arm in future. i have had my share of big crashes in 15 years of kiting, but none where i felt anything in my right arm or shoulder that i recall. hopefully all of this will resolve in a few months and i can get back to kiting, my only real exe...

Torn biceps tendon, perhaps holding bar incorrectly

I had my right shoulder rotator cuff torn tendon, the dorsal one, re-attached today. Doc also noted that part of my biceps tendon is irreversibly torn. The likely cause of that is that I hold the bar incorrectly. When riding on port tack, my favored side as i am regular stance, i hold the bar with m...

Re: Kitemare warning about crossed lines!

Your off-shore launching/landing situation appears to have helped you out, pulling you into the water rather than further onto land and rocks, etc. And like you and others commenting, it is beyond belief that the folks on the "beach" did not rush to help. Even in Cape Town where there are hundreds o...

Re: Where to travel Dec - March? Covid restrictions?

The south african restrictions make it almost impossible to go. Travel from USA, even if welcome, takes around 40 hours, so you have only 30 hours to get the test, and it comes as a text message so getting a docs signature is near impossible.
