Me too. That jump was really sketchy jumping into the lee of the island. Excellent to see Graham Howe getting included in a trip like this, he's a good guy and excellent kiter and hangs with Nick in Cape Town a lot. Should be included in the KOTA one day, rather than just reporting on it.

Re: Hurricanes - stay safe

I think you are a little premature on Douglass. Currently just the usual 25mph NE trade winds on Maui, and it may well go north of the islands. But indeed Hanna is pretty good, wish I was in the flanks of it, just bought a 2016 6m Pivot that would be perfect for 30-40.

Re: Alone in a Pacific Paradise - Eleveight rider Ben on his Decret Island

Sweet! I had hoped to be in French Polynesia kiting now. Instead I am stuck in Illinois and taking multiple long drives to Cape Hatteras. On the last one I met another South African who is skipper of a huge luxury motoryacht that got stuck in FP for the lockdown, but persuaded the authorities to let...

Re: 2018 11m Naish Pivot design/manufacturing flaw?

Update. I got the kite back from AirTime, the company Naish contracts with for repairs, and they completed the double-stitching to the wing tips. It looks good to me.

Re: Problem with North Navigator bar

Update. I drove the 16 hours to Cape Hatteras and have had a bunch of great sessions. I managed to replicate the problem in a controlled manner. As several have suggested, the chicken loop becomes rotated off the hook while messing around for launching. Then all that is securing the kite is the dick...

Re: Problem with North Navigator bar

Perhaps, Kiwibayer, but that does not explain why this only happens with this Navigator bar I bought three weeks ago, after 15 years of kiting without this problem with many other bars (at least five different Best bars and a Cabrinha bar and an old hybrid Liquid Force/Wikipa bar). But I will try to...

Re: Problem with North Navigator bar

Thanks Matt, that's the harness, and the fifth time a Navigator bar popped off it was at Kite Point on Sunday when Shawn from REAL had the North van there and I was trying a 9m Reach. And this time it popped off while still on the beach with the kite landing in the grass. Oh well, I'm stuck with thi...

Re: Just not getting it

I've watched several guys try endlessly on ridiculous gear, like a racing high-aspect flat wing and long mast, and not get it, unsurprisingly. For myself, starting foiling at age 62 after 12 years of kiting, the secret was a large board, short 15" mast, and simple medium aspect wing (original Slings...

Re: Problem with North Navigator bar

leepasty, this is the standard size chicken loop that comes default with the bar. I will probably end up buying the smaller freeride loop if messing with the dick/finger does not fix the problem. sepi, I am already using a new Mystic spreader and harness most of the time, see bottom spreader in each...

Re: Off Topic - America's Cup Sailing - Foiled Monohulls

As far as I know, the new IMOCA 60 foils have to be adjusted manually by the sailor, and allow only 5 degrees of adjustment to rake and angle of attack. This article indicates that the same is true for the new AC75 boats, although teams have tried various ways around this restriction. https://www.ya...
