Re: Why dont people rig lines cross wind to the kite?

Me too!

Don't try rigging sidewind in Cape Town, your lines will be blown all over the place and people will get pissed off with you. Most everyone rigs downwind these days so you can be completely confident when you pick up your bar you can check they are right, only a few still rig upwind.

Re: Chris Bertish to attempt wing-foil across Pacific

I believe he is building a modified version of the "SUP" he used for the Atlantic crossing, which is basically a slightly smaller and lighter version of the boats that rowers use for ocean crossings. Something he can sleep and cook and navigate on. What I don't understand is how he thinks he can get...

Yet another how-to-jump-higher video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPlmhhXhYiE I'd say three things. First, get that chicken finger more secure. Second, if you are riding a 7m in 30 knots you will never be able to match Mike McDonald and Steven Akkersdyk, et al. You need to be able to hold down a 9m in those conditions. Third, go to ...

Re: Chris Bertish to attempt wing-foil across Pacific

Agreed, but there is a lot of liberty taken on that. For example, the the Transpac yacht race.

Chris Bertish to attempt wing-foil across Pacific

As a South African one has to be proud of this guy. He's done some great big wave surfing and SUPing, and on a large "SUP" he crossed the Atlantic a few years ago. Now aiming for a Pacific crossing this northern summer on a "wing-foil". No images of the craft, which it seems to me could hardly be ex...

Re: Superb snowkiting conditions

Wow, you have amazing conditions. In my 15 years of kiting we have seldom had enough snow on the ground to kite here, and we have only corn and soybean fields, from which the winter winds generally scour the snow, so I've never had conditions like that. I'd love to have rolling hills with deep snow!

Re: Cape Hatteras Avon beach "nourishment" plans

I suspect before I am done I will see this island broken into a few separate pieces. Agree with Grigory that if the real reason is to keep US12 intact, then the whole island community should be contributing, even Ocracoke, so clearly the primary goal in the short term is preserving the houses south ...

Re: Ross-Dillon Player Takes First Place in the Bir Air Kite League Competition

Not so sure about the 45-50 knots, but since I wasn't there?? Unfortunately the local meters are all down. Anyway, great to see Ross perform so well. Of all the silly places to meet him a couple years ago after he won the Redbull Big Air in Holland, was at the local Milnerton Flea Market. And excell...
