Re: Hydrofoil Action shots - post them here!

Not much action nor blue skies and blue water. I have been kitefoiling for six months and this is the first picture of me. Chesapeake Bay with 45 degree air and 52 degree water. I will take what I can get. Brrr (although our water is about the same). Where do you launch on the Chesapeake Bay? I hav...

Re: DIY Foil Kites

"But, you need to buy it to do useful things, like export the patterns for printing." -ozchrisb I have "exported" patterns to normal laser-printer, not buying the program. It takes few hours to print and tape patterns for a big kite, so not much. If you can use A3 or bigger paper, much less. Surfpl...

For bridle design:

This one is a really good explanation of the mixer system for the guy who popularized it on kites.

Re: DIY Foil Kites

Think this is the group I was referring to https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Foildesign/info I remember reading that some well known names posted there. They dont seem very active now. I am/was? a member of that group. It kind of died out years ago when LEI's took over. We were mainly making bugg...

Re: DIY Foil Kites

Foilholio: I'm using http://sourceforge.net/projects/foilmaker/ foilmaker as I used it a long long time ago and know it makes nice patterns. Unfortunately the bridle design on it is very old so I'm trying to update that. I've also don't some custom bits for cell stiffeners etc. stefmoris: I agree th...

Re: Kitefoil Gold Cup 2016 ?

Except in another interview Marco said that now that they had got the kite foil class ISAF ratified (against the class members wishes) that the Gold Cup would be huge and that there would be a World Championship. I makes sense the IKS would try and pull this as Formula kite racing is dead, but not m...

Re: DIY Foil Kites

I started a 9m 45 cell kite months ago, and I wish I'd just done 20 and dribs or 1/2 ribs or something. All those cells add up to a lot of cutting and prep, the sewing time isn't really the issue. If you're not racing you won't need them, and even if you are I think it's worth seeing if you can make...

Re: At what speed, will the hydrofoil will start to lift me

Don't worry, I learnt on a race wing and plenty of other people around here did too. Just remember when you're learning that you want to go fast enough for it to fly, don't force the wing up, it'll let you know when it's ready ;)

Re: Ear Plugs

I never got Doc's to work either. I used these: http://barracudausa.com/product/silicone-earplugs/ they're swimmers plugs and there's similar deisgns from other companies around. I get them from the local discount sports store for $4 a pair. I buy three pairs per visit and replace as needed. I usual...
