Re: Disadvantages of larger foil wings?

Some of my assumptions would be: 1. Larger wings will be harder to control if you become overpowered in the kite and not allow you to go downwind with as much control when overpowered. 2. Larger wings will not let you ride with the board on the water downwind in overpowered conditions. 3. Larger wi...

Re: Plywood surf foil wing

Yeah, after seeing your result, I'm super keen to try. I've got some paulownia sheets left over after my last board build. I reckon that could be used to build a wing. I'm thinking sandwiching in some biax carbon in between one of the botton two layers would give it enough strength and resistance to...

Re: Foilboard (Pocket/Strapless) Paulownia

Pretty sure the gofoil floats too, definitely will with the bigger wings for sure. I think most of the all-carbon surf foils either float or are at least reasonably bouyancy neutral.

Re: The Naish Wing-Surfer

I'm also not sure if this one will stick. It seems like all the hype right now, everyones trying to get in on the action, but it remains to be seen whether people will stick with it. I'd love to try it out sometime. I do see it as appealing more to sup riders who are wanting to do downwind, but stru...

Yeah, super cool, but I bet you ten bucks that set up sinks.
I'd be glad to, and I'd bet another ten that the foil floats on its own.

Could you use an old skateboard deck. would not even glass it as it would be strong enough?

Though looks like it could do with some glass to stiffen up a little.

Re: MFC $2,700

Its the new flavor of the month.... It may be a passing phase. I'm more curious about the next generation of higher aspect surf wings to come out like the Albatross. Thats the wing that seems to be taking the surf foiling world by storm, and I'm sure it will appeal to freeride kitefoilers seeking e...

Re: Pocket board building

Yeah, I’m not worried about being able to drill through the glass. I’m more worried about drilling all the way through the board and when the drill hits the backside of the glass it forms “tee pee” and splinters and screws up the glass on the other side. If you're concerned you could push it agains...

Re: Pocket board building

I think you will find a drill goes through the glass really easily. Start with small holes to begin with to get a feel for it, and then drill it wider. I think you can drill straight through. I don't think you need any additional glassing. What I did on my board was drilled the holes slightly bigger...

Re: Pocket board building

So I tried my home build out yesterday. 34 x 15.5 x 1. Turns out I mounted the foil way too far forward for my liking. I put the back of the plate (Lift 150) about 4 inches from the back of the board, which is where I have it in my dwarfcraft. It felt like I was constantly fighting the lift even wi...
