Re: Pocket board building

with these thinner, say 1cm wood sheets, how do you make the nose rocker, if you want for example 5cm? I mean if you glue 5 sheets on top of each other to the nose, how do you get the carve out the material from the topside, please? From the underside it's not problematic, just sanding, but topside...

Re: Pocket board building

Thanks for all the help and advice! I will just go for the lowest lowtech solution for now and buy a one piece at my holiday location and screw the mast onto it (I am leaving in 2 days..). Once I am back I will make it a building project as suggested by TomW. Will update on process. Thanks again!! ...

Re: Pocket board building

On another note (and far from the pieces of art usually discussed here..): I am traveling soon and do not want to take my board, as it does not fit normal luggage (and I have my family, so reduced luggage allowance for kite stuff :-/). I fit a 70cm mast, wing, fuselage, kites etc all in a normal su...

Re: Stop this thing

Great tips - that makes a lot of sense. One question if you ride towards the kite won't it drop out of the sky? You want to point far enough downwind that the kite loses power and you slow down, but no so far that you ride straight under it and it falls out the sky. One more thing: If you feel like...

Re: Stop this thing

Rig a smaller kite. But if you're in this situation in the now: Say you're going downwind and you don't slow down, go more downwind. Keep kite high. If you're going straight downwind you should be riding straight towards the kite and it will lose power and you'll slow down. If this doesn't happen, d...

Re: Minor repairs to carbon wing

Just a suggestion, haven't tried this myself, but can't see why it wouldn't work:
How about your own epoxy mix consisting of epoxy with microfibres or other filler mixed in to get the right gel like consistency, and then add a small amount of black graphite powder?

It's all in the arms. Alternating backwards and forwards with each pump.
This looks efficient, comfortable, but still a bit goofy, yeah.

Re: Disadvantages of larger foil wings?

Some of my assumptions would be: 1. Larger wings will be harder to control if you become overpowered in the kite and not allow you to go downwind with as much control when overpowered. 2. Larger wings will not let you ride with the board on the water downwind in overpowered conditions. 3. Larger wi...

Re: Plywood surf foil wing

Yeah, after seeing your result, I'm super keen to try. I've got some paulownia sheets left over after my last board build. I reckon that could be used to build a wing. I'm thinking sandwiching in some biax carbon in between one of the botton two layers would give it enough strength and resistance to...

Re: Foilboard (Pocket/Strapless) Paulownia

Pretty sure the gofoil floats too, definitely will with the bigger wings for sure. I think most of the all-carbon surf foils either float or are at least reasonably bouyancy neutral.
