Re: Repairing small holes in canopy

I believe that the holes are small enough that you can tape them using the Airtime Dacron repair tape which is adhesive backed. Round the edges of the tape and tape both sides of the canopy. Make sure the canopy is clean and dry before applying the tape. Or you could ask a friend if they have some r...

Re: Where are all the used trainer kites? And other newb questions

IMO don't buy a trainer kite unless you get a fantastic deal (less than $50). Just take the lessons and use the instructor's/school's kites. You will learn SAFELY. I've seen people with the larger "trainer" kites get dragged and endanger others on the beach. A 3m kite going across the power zone in ...

Re: Recoating kite fabric

I might have missed it in this post but did anyone test to see if the porosity was mostly at the seams or generally spread all throughout the kite/fabric? Also do the kite manufacturers recommend or make a product that works? (probably not as they want to sell more new kites) What is the life span o...

Re: Offshore winds

It's not that much fun either. Getting yanked by the gusts. Once went out with side offshore and the forecast showed consistent winds all day. After about 1 hour, I felt that the wind was subsiding somewhat so I headed back to shore. I got to within 50' of shore and the wind died off. Fortunately th...

Baked beans and cabbage works good too, but you may wind up doing a "brown winder". :D

Re: Why doesn't everybody side rig their lines in launch position?

I'll add to your rant that some kiters rig and leave their lines laid out. Some have multiple kites rigged in case the wind picks up. It is unsafe, particularly in moderate to high winds and sometimes there is no room for anyone else to rig. I have seen kites sit there for hours - ridiculous!! If yo...
