Re: Pocket Board (HF) Layup Question

Yes it really works well with typical wood tools router etc. Not inexpensive but totally worth it IMO. No water absorption and excellent mechanical parameters make it a winner. It is readily available here too but only in full sheet.

Re: Pocket Board (HF) Layup Question

I would be skeptical about the xps holding up for long...delamination.

Is anybody having good luck with it long term?

I am doing full corecell M80 cores now. My 109x45x2 naked carbon is 2.1kg and its bomber with 19oz carbon skins plus uni.

Re: Core just released: XR6 and XR6 LW

Nice to see the evolution design strategy and the "FranK" compare the existing to a new crazy concept. That was gold for me,

Re: Pocket board building

Maybe the cold blank keeps the viscosity of the resin thicker so can't bleed in?

That really seems like a manufacturing defect.

Re: Pocket board building

Tomw idea makes more sense. Or even go low tech foam to keep it light but small. Depends if you have any previous skills with composites.

Re: vacuum ... or something else

Just get a vacuum pump off ebay...less than $100 and they can run all year non stop. Fridge compressor thing is maybe cheap but not worth the hassle. Carbon is expensive and you will need a lot of other consumables to make anything good anyway.

Re: Covering screw inserts

Another trick is to put the board in the freezer or outside if its winter. Then in warmth the condensation will show where the inserts are.

Re: Covering screw inserts

I use the 6mm ones that have a plastic cover that you drill through after layup....works perfect. Before I got these I filled inserts with candle wax and no problem just a little picking after.
