Re: First foilboard

For anyone still trying to make a board from plywood, I figured out how to add a decent amount of rocket/nose kick without laminating pieces. 1/2 inch Baltic birch. I dunked it in the bathtub for a minute and then propped it on a curb and drove the car on it and let it dry for a couple hours.

Pocket board width

What's the smallest pocket board you've enjoyed? I have a diy blank I'm getting ready to glass but I'm thinking it might be too small, specifically too narrow at 40x15 inches. (100x38cm). Anyone ride one this small?

Re: First foilboard

Was that ply board glassed? Looks like it wasn't. Also, the ply layers look like only a couple very thin hardwood and rest filler. I'm using Baltic birch which has much better strength but am glassing it as well with 2-3x 6 oz. s cloth. Should be bullet-proof.

Re: Protection against the sun

Saying that getting tan will somehow protect you from the sun is dangerous misinformation and absolutely incorrect.

Re: Strapless waterstart

Today I practiced with my strapless paipo-type foilboard and 9m LF Solo in about 10-15 mph winds. I found I had to fly the kite super-aggressively to get up and ride. As the kite whipped back and forth across the window, I managed to pivot the foil laterally on my back foot to follow the kite until ...

Re: First foilboard

My diy plywood board broke yesterday when I nosedived it due riding too high and surfacing the wing. I had kerfed the nose to give it some kick and it broke at the seam. These boards get a lot of sudden stress loading on crashing like that. On one hand you need area in the nose to help plane on touc...

Foilboard weight: does it really matter?

Board only: Big LF fish boards are heavy @ 12 lbs Zeeko mini pocket is close to 5 lbs. Others are in between. +Alu foils seem to range in the 7-10 lb. some carbon are a bit lighter. Question I have is: If you're riding strapless or strapped but not boosting, does the weight really matter? Does heavi...

Re: Foil Board DIY

I made mine from 1/2in Baltic birch and cheap Home Depot Bondo poly resin and fiberglass cloth. The deck pad is a $6 roll of adhesive backed cork which is holding up surprisingly well. 10 lbs. A fellow kiter recently broke a similar board at the front of the mast plate and I'm thinking of making ano...
