Re: Considering a switch to foil kites

Depends on where you ride. I ride on the Chesapeake Bay and hydrofoil only. My style: Foil kites for 9m and bigger sizes. LEI for 9m and smaller sizes. A little overlap in middle gives options. In higher wind, I like to carve more and tend to throw the hydrofoil around a bit, try new stuff, slack th...

Re: What does apparent wind really bring ?

i would say that apparent winds does not help at all on your final speed .... :bye: you get my point ? I don’t understand your statement. What is final speed? Apparent wind is a product of speed, not a cause. How can it help or not? It just exists. Are you thinking of the changes in kite airspeed, ...

Re: Handy tricks you only found after beginner lessons

When standing or swimming in very light wind with an LEI at edge of window at 2 o’clock drifting toward 3 o’clock, then 4, you might find there isn’t enough wind to steer back toward 12 o’clock and kite seems to be sinking lower and lower toward the water. Learn to call it early around 3 o’clock and...

Re: Strutless LEI vs foil

What's light wind to your 11m? 11m Diablo v1 with 15m lines with medium/small hydrofoil wing: no white caps but some texture on water (8 knots maybe). With 20m lines, 1500cm2 hydrofoil wing, glassy water, hardly any wind feeling at surface (6-7knots maybe). I’m 65kg, 39inch x 20inch low volume board.

Re: Next steps, whats the best progression?

The amazing thing about foiling is that each step of progression feels like you’re attempting the impossible, but then somehow you learn to do it. I learned to tack with foot switch this year by committing hard: waterstart, count to 10 seconds, tack, crash, point other direction, repeat. And now I c...

Re: Strutless LEI vs foil

I’ve done both with hydrofoil. I like 9 and 11m race foil kites with hydrofoil better than big strutless LEI with hydrofoil in light wind. I have no waves, and so I tend to ride fast and pretend I’m racing. 9 and 11m foil kites are plenty nimble enough. I often ride in one spot, tacking and jibing e...

Re: Pansh Genesis and some tuning

Can you explain with a drawing why this mod is a 1:2:3 ratio? I can’t conceptualize it. Maybe I’m not drawing it out right. Is this right?

Re: Tacking Variations - Ideas

Here’s a trick to try: during a roll tack foot switch, jump/boost both feet off the board at once as you spin your hips/body and then land on it again and ride away. Did it accidentally when overpowered with foil kite and now have fun trying to see how much “air” and hangtime I can get and still lan...

Re: Small Souls as light wind foiling weapons

Sold my 15m race foil kite and kept my 11m because I couldn’t keep my 15m in the air in variable sub 10knot winds but can with my 11m due to maneuverability and less inertia. But now I want a 18m foil kite to try again (short lines). Big kite and small foil is more fun for me than big foil and small...

Re: Launching in strong winds

To inflate, I learned to “fly” the kite by holding the front lines in one fist at the connection knots at the kite and the back lines with the other hand. You can yank the fronts to inflate, sheet with backs and even turn left and right by moving hand with back lines left and right. Tuck the bar und...
