Tips for learning to ride toeside

I'm confidently riding on all points of sailing and have been working on heelside to toeside turns. I can fly round without touching down but once on toeside it all falls apart. I know that practice makes perfect and that I will get there but are there any tips anyone can offer that helped them to c...

Stance width and board length

As I’m still very much a beginner (2nd season) I’ve not had experience of different set ups that many of you on this forum have had, so this question is aimed at you and I thank you in advance for your input. Once you have established a balanced stance for your particular board and foil, how much is...

Re: Lets discuss ear protection

I too have had a lifetime of watersports, all in cold water (the worst for your ears) and I've suffered many of the associated problems over the years. Last year on the advice of my doctor I invested in custom moulded ear plugs...audiologist takes a mould of your ear canal and pinna and that is used...

Re: Marks on board - please tell me what is the cause of this

I agree with Peter, they look like impact damage, not enough to puncture the laminate but enough to craze the resin. This is where twin tip construction as used on Shinn boards wins out. But if you are after super light, then the downside is you need to handle these boards with care.

Re: A return to building

Thanks for the kind words. My next two builds are underway already so they've had stringers stuck in, so can't change that, but will drop the two lateral box reinforcements. I am going with a lighter lay up this time (see my lay up thread) and Ive been able to borrow a vacuum pump so will vac bag th...

Re: Will it be strong enough

Thanks for sharing your experience. Clearly I'm going a bit far in my reinforcements compared to the rest of you. So, I will go ahead with my suggested lay up and will post how it goes.

Pigmenting epoxy

Has anyone used pigments in their laminating epoxy or is it just used for filling/sanding coats and finishing coats as I've heard it affects strength. Thanks

A return to building

P1000656.JPG Having made 4 windsurf boards and 8 kiteboards in the past I recently got the building urge again (after having got rid of all my vacuum equipment many years ago). So, this is my first attempt at a foil board. Hope its useful for any new builders out there to see that you don’t need lo...

Re: Will it be strong enough

The previous build used 200g glass in place of the 100g and also included a layer of 100g ud top and bottom. Probably resin rich as I wasn't able to vacuum but will with these builds. Still not sure what to go with. Perhaps I should ask what layups have you done that have failed.
