Re: How to slow down the foil

I don't really count touching down as any more viable advice than crashing. Surface riding isn't really even foiling, besides, you try to scrub excess speed by touching down and your more than likely coming off due to the sudden onset of the drag. If you can stay on, you were already going pretty sl...

Re: Loss of Lift

I remember when trying to work my way offshore in bigger conditions I would often kind of surface grind my way out past the white wash and then foil straight into the swell. Often I would make it past the steep stuff only to completely bail in a "trip over the front" sort of way when my foil would j...

Re: How to slow down the foil

Hey Where is the break? ;) To be succinct, there is none! One of the big differences in the step to foil. There is no turning the board sideways and grinding out speed like you can with other boards. Feels like your on rails for a while, but eventually you get used to it and learn that there is def...

Re: What type of skis for kiting?

I learned to kite about 17 years ago on snow. Well, I bought a used kite of E bay and learned to fly it over a period of a couple months in the fall before the snow came. Got proficient at rigging, self launching, relaunching and packing it back up. Did all that on a few local hillsides in between 1...

Re: What type of skis for kiting?

Sacrificial ones!

Esp if your riding on frozen lakes and fields.

Sidewall construction will stand up way better than cap. Goes for skis or snowboards alike.

Re: High wind foiling

I generally need a thicker suit for some degree of bodily protection! In whining to my wife about the not so severe injury I sustained foiling the other day, she points out the plethora of unaccounted for bruising all over my thighs and arse. Anyone else find high wind foiling leads to a lot of myst...

Re: High wind foiling

Yeah man, overdress.

Its fall, Im in a winter suit.

Getting cold sucks, you play it too safe.

You will be stoked with your new kite when you get to use it..... which is likely soon, because.... well, foiling!

Re: Strapless hydrofoil airs, where to start

Learning to air a strapless surfboard is amazing and highly recommended, but its significantly different from the strapless hydrofoil air learning curve. Had a pretty rough wipeout yesterday where I came down on top of a spinning foil and some part of it scrapped the length of my ulna from elbow to ...

Re: High wind foiling

I have to respectfully disagree. Over the last few seasons I have experimented foiling in higher winds with five, three, single, strutless and Peak4s. In sizes 9,8.5,8,7,6.25,6,5,4,3.5 and 3m. I remember being stoked holding a 9m 5 strut Rally into 20 knots and feeling like I'd found something compl...
