I have 25m lines on my 5m (21m on my 4m). Initially I thought the length was unnecessary because the peak doesn't seem to build more power with apparent wind. But it allows longer power sweeps, and more room for error in lulls. It still turns well with longer lines.
The drifter sits back in the wind window a lot compared to other LEIs. I liked it for foiling because it drifts and steers well compared to other LEIs, and upwind is fast on a hf anyway. The soul goes upwind significantly better, but I don't enjoy it for downwind riding, way too much care required. ...
I would put this order in term of L/D ratio (i.e. upwind performance):
Peak->LEI->Wave-> Hyperlink->Chrono
Have you flown the Peak4 yet?
My 4m Peak4 doesn't seem any worse than my drifter 5.5 at going upwind. Not that I use my drifter any more, because the peak is so much better behaved.
Excellent session today with the Peak4 5m in 8-15 knots. It makes inflatable kites seem like lead balloons. It is simply incredible the way this kite drifts when pumping the foil on wind swell. If I was on a LEI tonight, I would have been swimming with the kite in the water when the wind dropped to ...
The lightest I rode with 5m Rally on a 633 wing (and 200 lbs weight) was about 16 knots. I tend to loop my kites a lot for extra power, and I know single skins are not much of looping machines Do you think 5m Peak would deliver same power and fun? I've found that I can get going at the low end with...
@lightwind. Using a LEI from 6 knots? Forget it. Even in colder more dense winds you need at least 8 kts. If you are after sub 8 kite that has the feel of a LEI take a look at Foilkites (Kitech FRS, FS Soul, PL Nova or CA Pulsion) Good advice. If you're after the feel of a LEI, easy handling, fast ...
Purchased a couple of peaks, in 4m and 5m, specifically to use with hydrofoil at a gusty wind-shadowed launch site. I've used them about 10 times now, and prefer them over my drifters. When I was flying a drifter at this launch site, I'd be constantly worried the drifter would back stall in the lull...
Also what kite do you expect to behave in wind between 8 and 24 knots, if this is actually true? Soul seems like have been made for smoother sea winds, with less gusts and turbulence. I mean it works well in the gusty conditions as long as I kept moving. But as soon as I stop there are problems. An...
