Re: Riding in offshore winds

I kite in off-shore winds, when the conditions are tempting enough and I think it is reasonably safe. In a sense, it is no different from kiting in on-shore winds, because it really boils down to the same thing: You must at all times have a viable exit plan. What that exit plan is can vary. Sometime...

Re: How to : The Backloop

And a happy Sunday to you too JGTR! Look, I agree that it's obviously not the most important thing in the world. However, it's kind of like the words wheel vs. tire , or pistol vs. revolver vs. gun . Yes, people will kind of understand what you're talking about no matter which word you use; b...

Re: Naish Cult

The Naish Cult is designed to flag out on a single front line, when you activate the primary safety release. I've never actually seen an HQ Neo 2 control bar, but judging from photos online, it seems to have only one single front line running up from the bar (which later splits to two lines in a Y c...

Re: How to : The Backloop

I have never heard a "backroll" being called a "backloop" before. Is this a regional thing? Riders roll, kites loop. I agree, what that video is showing is backrolls. What is the correct term depends on the axis of rotation. If you rotate vertically (i.e., so that you end up inverted halfway throug...

Re: 5 Top Kitespots in the Philippines

Let me start by repeating that Kingfisher is not a bad place. If you're a wave addict, know how to ride and judge conditions, and you're in the Philippines and want to make a sidetrip, it is worth checking out. It's just that the hype is, well, hype - it's not honest info. What's wrong with just wri...

Re: Kiting with a whale

Nice, juandesooka. I was watching a surfing video a while back where you could see hundreds of seals on the beach in the background, plus seals jumping out of the water every few minutes. I had the same thought - "welcome to the food chain..." Or rather, welcome to being another entree on what must ...

Re: baby Wainman

I too like the simple graphic and one color - but I have to say, though, that in any kite smaller than 5m, I'd prefer it to be bright orange or neon green or flourescent yellow or something like that. Think about the conditions in which you'd be using it... I personally prefer high visibility. Once ...

Re: Finless

The last time you saw me riding, I had removed the fins (no special reason, just for some variety)... And my board did not have any channels or special outline. So sure, you can ride almost any board finless without much difficulty once you get used to it. It would be a good time to work on surface ...

now for you buzz killing wind speed bad person's. list up some stoke about high wind kiting. or be silent. Hey, I wouldn't have my small kites if I didn't love the conditions 8) It can be a rush like nothing else. You know when you reach that point where you're not trying to boost high anymor...

Re: I really enjoy smashing a 30+ knots session

I'm with Peter Frank on this one - I think people routinely overestimate the windspeed by 5-10 knots, and their jumps by 5-10 meters... As Brent4336 wrote, 30 knots average is a helluva lot of wind 8) There's a reason why you call 27+ knots a "near gale". I weigh around 65kg and I'm definitely on my...
