Kite foil …no leashes vs 2 leashes
You probably have a leash/flagout line, and if just you let the bar go you’ll be dragged by the kite

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

Wingfoil learning is humbling to an experienced kitefoiler, just like learning to kitefoil was humbling to an experienced keteboarder.

Learning to kitefoil I always ended up severely upwind (and struggled to fly downwind) which wasn’t the case with wingfoil.

I don’t think he’s stupid. Shit happened and he handled it.

Got to say I’m still confused as to what scenario makes someone walk to the beach holding the kite with lines attached and dragging along the ground, there are so many ways that can go wrong.
Every water self-launch begins this way, but the guy obviously had someone else around…

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

… Wing blocking the view, is only partly correct as you can lift the wing up to have full view, takes a split second, and I have never had any issues NOT being able to see what is leeward of me. … Of course, the "novelty" might also be a reason, but now the wingfoil craze has lasted 5 years and the...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

I just saw an ad for wings, 50% to 75% off. Excess stock? Big changes in design? Over priced starting price? New wings have been under $400 on sale. I’ve seen a couple of 4-4.5m for $250 new and it’s good sign. I’d say the design is too simple to build something others can’t make. It’s not bridle s...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

… the two leashes are still the most obvious absurdity to me … You don’t have to use the leashes. Kiteboarders dropped board leash because you have sometimes uncontrolled pull from a kite sending the board towards the teeth. But kiteboarders still have flagging line attached to a leash - for same r...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

Probably back on 2019 La Ventana trip watching first few wingers ride we were talking about “who the hell would want to do that”. And then there were couple of them going pretty fast and/or cutting upwind well, and it resulted in “hmm”. Two years later my friend with severe kitefoiling addiction, ou...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

I believe it was 2018 when I stopped bringing twintip to our local lake. Since I started winging in fall 2021, I also stopped bringing kitefoil to that lake too. Wingfoil and efoil just took over - first for some good challenge and new fun, and second for flight sensation in no wind. I still love do...
