Re: Getting worked in big surf.....

I think I should add that if the waves get big enough, you may want to consider skipping your leash altogether - especially if there is any kind of onshore component to the wind. In those cases the risks of a leash may outweigh the possible benefits. I've started to unclip my leash before trying to ...

Re: Getting worked in big surf.....

I am not sure that that is a good idea. In normal conditions...

Re: Lunacy replacement?

Another board in this category (stiff & flat, for great pop and upwind ability) is the Skywalker X / Skywalker Yo board. The company changed management and they are not selling new boards at the moment, but used ones can be found on the second hand market.

Re: kite surfing under 40+ knot wind is exciting

For those of us who do love strong wind, Penghu is indeed a great place. I have been there and I can attest to that it's freakishly windy. It's one of the few places where you could go for a one-week vacation, at any random time during the year, and be more or less guaranteed to get to ride your sma...

Re: Kite looping?

To learn to kiteloop start without jumping. Ride along, come off your edge heading downwind and loop kite. All that will happen is you get pulled downwind, no problemo, get used to doing these then start edging a bit more and then small jumps. Exactly, this is good advise. Kiteloops on the water is...

Re: Air China - urgent help needed please!

You are talking about a twintip board, right? Not a directional? I flew with kitegear on Air China about half a year ago. I brought a twintip in a boardbag; a bag with one kite / wetsuit / bar / harness / et cetera); and a separate bag with clothes and other things. In other words, three bags, and a...

Re: Riding in offshore winds

FYI I always go out with the assumption that I will with a high probability remain connected to my kite!! I agree - of course you can reasonably assume that you will in 99%+ of your sessions remain attached to a functioning kite until you return to shore. I was merely saying that that can't be the ...

Re: Riding in offshore winds

In a sense, it is no different from kiting in on-shore winds Erm am I missing something?? Off shore winds will blow you our to sea, onshore winds will blow you back to shore, how is that the same thing??? Correct, off-shore winds pushes you out to sea and onshore winds pushes you towards the shore ...

Re: Riding in offshore winds

Oh, and one more thing: Be mentally prepared to ditch your gear if you have to. Kitegear can be replaced.
