Re: Is this solo launch technique safe? - 5line C-kite

I have found the 5th line to be a great tool to aid in self-launching both "C" and Bow kites. I have used 4 different techniques, none of which are "safe", but all of which should be considered "tricks" and practiced first in low, steady wind in shallow water. I never used the technique exactly as y...

Re: Interesting - Injury Stats

With "organized" sports like soccer and hockey, there is usually some medical personnel around like a school nurse or team doctor, who is required to file a report on any injury that may occur. With "unorganized" sports like kiting and skiing, there is usually no one, on site, to file such reports. ...

Re: Mako King-riders pics

Glad to hear that the "King" has not assumed a new moniker. Long live the King!

So now I have to ask....What model Mako is being called the 'Fat Mako'? Is it the same as the 'Mako Wide'?

Re: Downwind Faster Than The Wind - update

I am more interested in Rick's appearance on the Jerry Springer show and the reporting of the incident on CNN..."Chair fight between Nobel prize winner and up-start inventor" Sanjay Gupta quipps: "We think of our scientists as being stone-cold rational beings, but occasionally emotions get the best ...

Re: Downwind Faster Than The Wind - update

I love this comment on the "Wired" blog thread: “Well, it’s all well and good in practice, but it will never work in theory” Ask the poster of this comment if you can use this for the title of your book. I can hear Steven Colbert now: "Nation, and especially, children and students, as you know I rej...

Re: Kooky Kook Proofs

yeah, got a Naish kite and the pigtails are backwards compared to every other brand out there. Ocean Rodeo Rise kites have a larkshead on the rear bridle. Maybe we should use this as a topic for a survey. I will start: kookproof setups: Knots on back lines: Core Larkshead on back lines Ocean Rodeo ...

Re: Kooky Kook Proofs

Years ago, this subject was a topic here...and I think most people agreed that having loops on the REAR kite lines was best...the rationale being: Most kites are adjusted for use in different wind speeds by using the knots on the long rear line pigtails, which are connected to the kite. So, having t...

Re: Cost of lessons? Why?

It seems like learning kitesurfing would be a lot like learning hang gliding, as far as equipment, liability, etc.

Here is a cost comparison of hang gliding lessons:
