Re: My experiences Wave riding with different boards and kites

If I understand you correctly that is a very different solution. Sort of and extended chicken loop where the short leash becomes a depower device? Our conditions rarely exceed 15mph difference gust to lull so fixed loop generators are fine here and usually the problem here is lulls not gusts so if y...

Re: My experiences Wave riding with different boards and kites

generators work best on 22-25m. The others I don't know what's best. I know some Fuel riders shorten their lines to try to get the kites a little faster turning and a little more forward flying when unhooked. For the "fly the kite" school of riding where the kite sits in the window (forward), where ...

Re: My experiences Wave riding with different boards and kites

There are really two seperate "schools" of unhooked wave riding. The first is the "park and drift" school. This is where the rider doesn't turn the kite much but lets it drift back and pull down the line. This is where kites like the Fuel, Nano, and DNA etc. are good. These kites all sit back in the...

Re: switching stance

Great switch foot surfers have always been around although they mostly seem to be from Hawaii for some reason with a heavy dose of Makaha influence. Although Rabbit Kekai was perfecting it in Waikiki 60+ years ago. Paul Strauch Jr. was and is an amazing talent. One of the most under-rated talents in...

switching stance

Interesting historical footnote to Slaters complete and utter domination of pro surfing. From yesterdays ripcurl event, after posting a 9.0 and a 10 he caught a third good one and had this to say, "“I got a pretty good barrel out the back and then I faded my bottom turn as much as I could before p...

Re: droplets on lense when shooting in water...

Aaron, I meant to address your blur ideas too. I like speed blurs a lot. There are basically two kinds of motion blurs that are commonly done in kiting. The first is to use a big lens on a tripod and a slow speed and pan with the action. In this case I used a 600 with a 1.4 converter to make an 840,...

Re: droplets on lense when shooting in water...

Flatty lays out some good basic advice. In the "picture is worth a thousand words dept" here's how some of this works. The original shot, into the sun, 1p.m. fill flash, f13, 1/320sec, iso 100, canon 1Ds mk 2, 17 megapix then two covers using the shot. Using a studio camera allows native cropping at...

Re: droplets on lense when shooting in water...

For comparison, here is a shot from the same day a few minutes later. Crap action again but I need the good ones for upcoming projects. Sorry. This was shot at iso200 but at 1/800 and f9. You will see that f9 still provides enough depth of field to get the kite and 1/800 does a much better job of fr...
