Re: what about this year's el nino

This link offers a fairly comprehensive discussion and you can search for location specific conditions, since el Nino has very different effects depending on where you are and depending on exactly how she plays out...which is still quite difficult to pin down as hard science. worth a read: http://ww...

Re: Why are Kite Lessons so expensive in the US???

Hey Touche, I understand what you are saying, and YES it is a hard sport to just "try out" without a fairly significant investment of time and money. When I first got into it I thought that EVERYONE who saw this or tried it would love it like I do. But just like sailing, which I also have taught and...

Re: Why are Kite Lessons so expensive in the US???

Tarifa's my back yard, so yeah, Tarifa for beginners can be a tough cookie, with levante being strong and gusty. Poniente is smooth with waves after a couple of days. The school guys are teaching in gusting 30kn no matter what, I've seen many a student piss themselves with horror. But, when you've ...

Re: Global winds...getting less?

This is clearly a conspiracy perpetuated by the kite manufactures to scare people into buying bigger kites. :angryfire:

...and I think the foil people are in on it.

Re: Why are Kite Lessons so expensive in the US???

Well I would like to disagree: take i.e. Tarifa, Gisela Pulido Kite Center (a well established operation): http://kite-school-tarifa.com/kite-lessons/ Alamos I was only quoting what I saw at this link. http://www.dragonkiteschool.com/en/less ... ing-course Apparently you were looking at a different...

Re: Why are Kite Lessons so expensive in the US???

To address Touche and his original comments more directly: Saying that prices are lower in the Eurozone is a very broad statement...a lot may also depend on which country you are in, for example: Tarifa, one of the most popular kite destinations in Spain, where pricing should be very competitive, ri...

Re: Why are Kite Lessons so expensive in the US???

I understand what you are saying William and I somewhat agree with you. It is probably true that it's easie to strap on a snowboard or skis and wing it than doing the same with kiting...maybe it's even a luxury to have ski lessons at all. I spent a lot of time as a kid taking ski lessons, many years...

Re: Why are Kite Lessons so expensive in the US???

OK, WIlliam, thanks for your viewpoint. My apologies if I misconstrued your comments to suggest that kitesurfing lessons are excessively expensive...or am I still getting you wrong on this? Just to clarify my position - When I teach I can do a small group in the first lesson, but then the lesson alw...

Re: The Center Line Swivel; Got one? Love it or Hate it?

I have been using the Core Sensor bar for 2 years, and before that the Core ESP bar for 2+ years. The bars are somewhat different but both have a similar below the bar swivel on the QR assembly. As far as performance goes: the Core swivel works 100% of the time. I have never had any jamming, rust, s...
