replacing lines before they break?

I'm interested in peoples' opinions and experience on when you should replace flying lines. My bar has ~90 sessions on it and there are a few places on the front lines with some minor fraying. Is it best to a) not worry about it till they either break or start looking really bad b) replace them as s...

Re: Average Joe Kite Review- Light wind kites

My compliments on an interesting and informative set of reviews -- very well done! Could you comment a little more on how the kites acted at the 20 mph end of your test wind range -- particularly the extent to which they depowered using bar trim (your reviews emphasized how well they went to the edg...

Re: Recommendation on cold weather kiteboarding gloves

I have moderate Raynaud's syndrome and my fingertips start going numb before most people's. I also don't like to kite unless I have enough dexterity to fix and adjust stuff on the water, and I'm susceptible to forearm cramp from gripping against stiff gloves or mittens. After years of trying many of...

Re: Friendly kite for gusty conditions or when overpowered

I find my Ocean Rodeo prodigies work incredibly well in gusty, holey conditions with big peaks on the gusts.. Very stable, quick and predictable depower on the bar, and a very nice characteristic of not turning fast from small bar movements but turning pretty darn quick when you yank the bar hard. G...

Re: Ocean Rodeo Soul Drysuit now shipping worldwide

Quick question--Why put the harness underneath the jacket? I've been a cold weather climber for a couple of decades and I always fasten my climbing harness over the top of my jacket. Climbing jackets have pockets set high on the front for this purpose. What's the advantage of the Soul's approach? F...

Re: Road Access To Hatteras Island Closed

Since RT12 is the only way on and off Hatteras Island it has its own Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/NCDOT Small correction to this otherwise excellent summary -- you can get on and off Hatteras via Ocracoke, but it means taking two ferries and taking a lot more time. Also worth noting that ...

Re: Looking for Ocean Rodeo Soul Dry Suit real user reviews

I had the Soul all last winter, and give it the thumbs up. Pretty easy to get on and off, and very comfortable and non-restrictive. Very well made and seems durable. As warm as you want it to be depending on what you layer under it. Harness stays put and it totally gets rid of any wind chill. You do...

Re: Next Gen Ocean Rodeo Kites - Prodigy, Razor & Flite Upda

I'm also really interested in the new 17 Flite -- I have OR Prodigies and really like them, and this looks like a similar design. Does the 17 have a pretty good top end -- like up to around 20 if the wind comes up? (my aging Ozone Zephyr does that pretty well, and it has come in handy on downwinders...

+1 on the looks -- I love my 2013 Nugget, but is has about the stupidest and ugliest graphics I've ever seen. The 2014 isn't pretty, but at least it's less ugly and lost the faux-hip movie quotes and random words.

Re: Looking for bombproof ultrastable slow 8m behaving like

It's not an 8m, but I have been really happy with my Ocean Rodeo Prodigy 7m on the criteria given by the original poster -- it is really stable deep in the window in gusty conditions, has lots of depower, and is very relaxing -- doesn't dart around unpredictably like other small kites I've had. If y...
