Re: Why do I need a much bigger board AND bigger kite for a heavier rider?

Stupid question? I am only asking because lift/water resistance is proportional to square of speed and only linear with surface area, i.e. lifting force is: F = k *v*v*S where V is speed and S is surface. General rule of thumb seems to be 135x40 for 75 kg rider 150*45 for 95 kg rider, correct? Plus...

Re: Best place to learn Kite surfing in Portugal

I kites at Alvor last year. I’ve been kitesurfing for 3 yrs and can hold my own in most conditions. It was carnage. Sooooo many people learning to kite, so lots of them were just stood watching for quite some time, kites hitting the water all the time and when they did get up and riding they quickly...

Re: Ocean Rodeo Mako vs Nomad Wave TT

I’d check the Liquid Force hippy stick line as well.
I’ve just had a Moon Patrol. Only had one short session so far but very impressed. Rides the same both ways and whilst I’m no expert at toeside, I did my best toeside ride and carve ever.
Plus they are much cheaper than the Mako or Nomad.

Liquid Force solo wind range

I’m thinking of thinning out my quiver. I currently ride 17m strutless, 13, 10.5 and 7m kites. The 17 has a very limited wind range from about 8 knots to 13, I then got to the 13. I tried a 15.5 solo the other day, (only static though, so not a true test) and it seemed to pull well in about 10 knots...

Re: Mystic Merino Gloves

They’re neoprene lined with merino.
I’d like to know myself if they are any good.

Re: How much are old kites holding me back?!

Be careful with older speeds, I had one and it flew like crap. I wouldn’t have dreamed about using it on the water. For your budget see if you can find a HQ Matrixx. The 15 has a great wind range and is really stable and easy to fly. The only thing you might find hard to get used to is the very low ...

Re: How much are old kites holding me back?!

Whilst in their day they were both great kites, even by 2008 kites had moved on quite a bit. Newer kites will give you much more depower, better stability, upwind etc. They’ll just do everything better. There probably hasn’t been as much advance in the past five years, but compared to yours newer ki...

Re: Any self taught out there?!

I’m self taught, but had been land boarding with kites for years before, so I had very good kites skills and had used all kinds of kites. Because of that I found the transition very easy, and our local spots are nice, safe sandy bays. However, flying a kite static is very different to flying one on ...

Probably best placed in a PM to Toby rather than on an open forum.
