Re: Reading weather the natural way

I wrote something this about 19 years ago for kiting. It has worked well for me since that time. It has evolved a bit over the years. To do less before/during a kite session, isn't a good idea in my opinion. Even with this preparation, there can sometimes be surprises so have a care and act conserva...

Re: Dangers of strapless

I am sorry you suffered all those injuries and thanks for sharing your story. Good luck with your hamstrings and be patient with your doctor. They can take a long time to heal. I had a bad high hamstring tear last summer that is still bothering me. It happened from a messed up solo kite landing when...

Re: Scarry incident - tea bagging via rocks, groung

Tee shirts?! It is a shame the guy collects this stuff and leaves out important information, like how the rider is, why did it happen, etc.. The launch looks real familiar so some guys in the area may know about the accident?

Re: Florida one kite for all winds?

I weigh 50 pounds more than you and kite most of the time in SE Florida. You are here for our windier months although that could mean no wind to nuclear conditions depending on what weather system is passing over. I use 7 m to 19 m kites in that time with twin tip boards usually. Admittedly, 7 m day...

Re: Mexico / Caribbean in Oct / Nov ?

October is still prime hurricane season in the Yucatan, it can get some serious hits. "Usually" hurricanes turn off around Nov. 1 but some years may differ. The trades in the ABC island latitudes and Cabarete may be less reliable due to tropical weather in your time frame.

Re: Kiting at Miami Flats

I just saw your post. Yes, Miami is strict in many ways. With millions of residents, hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and almost 24 years of kiting issues, it can add up. You might want to let someone else do the driving and save some money for boat rental and go out with https://www.sout...

Re: Wingsurfing, an easier way ...

Some people will never successfully get up and planning for an extended period get on a hydrofoil. And if it’s a choice between that and Winging, they probably won’t ride with a wing. That is a loss both to them and to wing manufacturers. You may or may not recall in the days of Windsurfing where Pe...

Re: Wingsurfing, an easier way ...

Mom has already played around with a hydrofoil a bit but seems more at ease on the BULA SUP. I think both kids will enjoy winging on the BULA and may or may not move on to a hydrofoil in time. It is good to have options and the very short curve for learning to wing on the BULA compared to putting th...

Wingsurfing, an easier way ...

For best winging performance you need to use a hydrofoil. Many people need to commit a good deal of time and effort to mastering wingfoiling. At the same time, there is an easier, quicker way to get up winging in good conditions. You might wing in minutes instead of what may be weeks or longer with ...

Re: OBX - Ikitesurf forecast?

iKitesurf is pretty good, plus OBX has had a human meteorologist doing weather analysis to supplement the machine models for sometime. The trouble is forecasts beyond 3 days often aren't that reliable particularly at the extreme end. I often look at both iKitesurf/Wind Alert and NWS forecasts. You'l...
