Water mellon with and without helmet drops "test"

The helmet is a retired helmet that has even lost some of it's strength from UV.

Dropped from 8ft.

Re: Helmets for kitesurfing and the bucketing and drag myth.

Does it have these? "It has impact slap breakup holes on the helmet to reduce slap when hitting the water." Why would you mislead a fellow kiter (or anyone) on the properties/capabilities of an article of PPE? Bell funded Snell foundation "research "was it? Does it "reduce 85% of head injuries" too...

Re: Helmets for kitesurfing and the bucketing and drag myth

When I'm kiting in onshore waves sometimes I fall in front of the wave and like clockwork the wave pushes the surfboard right at me. A friend had his eye knocked out of the socket like this. I don't wear a leash. I think the danger of impact goes beyond the beach Yes.... For eye protection the full...

Re: Helmets for kitesurfing and the bucketing and drag myth.

Ok so this is the sort of info that is useful! So you’d go with the full cut rather than the Ace or Ace wake due to the ear covering? Yes the full cut is the way to go. I would also recommend the hi Viz yellow if they have it in stock just in case you get separated from your kite. Also don't use it...

Re: Looking for a new helmet

Pro-Tec full cut. Nice snug fit. Relatively light. Full cut covers the ears. Two different foam layers. Foam creates a bezel around the forehead and temple. Bezel is great for keeping sun goggles in place.... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51252949145_61c258a15b_o.jpg It has impact slap breakup...

Re: Helmets for kitesurfing and the bucketing and drag myth.

Lets also look at the unfounded claim that a helmet going to cause whiplash. An xl human head weighs in at 7,000g A Pro-tec xl helmet weighs 430g That is a percentage increase in weight of only 6%. That is a very small increase in total weight of the head. If you consider the reduced drag thanks to ...

Re: Helmets for kitesurfing and the bucketing and drag myth.

The helmet doesn´t have to make forceful impact harmless (like a motorcycle helmet). My critical situation is this: Falling while riding a wave with my strapless surfboard. Wave throws my board against my head. I faint. Then drown within a minute. If the helmet prevents me from loosing consciousnes...
