Re: Egypt: El Gouna & Soma Bay

The Movenpick launch is indeed a bit gusty, but it didn't seem too bad to me. Maybe because I often ride at Crissy Field and Maui (both of which have much worst launches). You can also play it safe and walk out a bit before launching... I didn't ride much in the inner lagoon or channel. For jumping ...

Egypt: El Gouna & Soma Bay

Just came back from Egypt and wanted to share my experience... Stayed at the Movenpick in El Gouna. Really enjoyed it! The spot is terrific with lots of variety: an inner lagoon, some choppy deep water, and a beautiful outer lagoon (as long as you don't mind riding over corals). You can do an upwind...

Re: Soma bay, Egypt: Intercontinental & Sheraton question

Thanks for the info. I meant to say Dahab in Egypt, not Dahkla in Morroco. Sorry. Soma Bay looks pretty awesome. And it sounds like kiting at the 7bft station would be ideal. But I am a bit confused about whether any of the hotels are walking distance from 7bft. Is the Intercontinental walking dista...

Re: Soma bay, Egypt: Intercontinental & Sheraton question

My wife (who also kites) and I want to go to Egypt for a week this July. We are trying to figure out which is THE best place to go... Someone recommended Dakhla, but I was wondering what people on this forum thought... Looking for flat water, steady wind and a nice hotel right in front of the kiting...

Clinics recommendations

My wife and I want to do a kiting clinic this summer (July or early August). Something along the lines of the surf clinics that Ben Wilson offers (but we don't want to go to Bali). It would be ideal to it in Southern Europe, North Africa or the Pacific. Is there any "directory" or list of clinics th...

Water. Not sure why the post got categorized the way it did... Couldn't figure out how to change that.

Thanks.

Kiting in El Portil, Punta Umbria, El Rompido Costa del Sol

I am thinking about going to the Punta Umbria - El Portil area in Spain's Costa del Sol this June. This is a bit North-West of Tarifa near the border with Portugal. Kitebeaches doesn't have much info about the spots there. The spot on El Portil by El Rompido river looks the best. Anyone has been the...

How about the Coconut Bay Resort in St Lucia? I am surprised it hasn't been mentioned in this thread... Anyone been there? I am considering it for next February. Looks pretty ideal for families...

Rain in Maui next week

I am thinking of going to Maui next Thursday for a couple of days. The wind forecast looks great, but it also looks like it might rain. Anybody with experience in Maui this time of year? When it rains, does it tend to rain for long periods of time straight or just short showers? Any suggestions on h...
