Re: Gong Strutless V4 review

I do not know why you would use this or any other strutless kite in anything other than ultra light winds. My own experience is this is a great kite for 7 to 10 knots foiling. Drifts, stays in the air and generates a ton of pull to get you on the foil. Over 10 knots you might as well use a wave kite...

Re: Ralf Groesel and Bullshit Light Wind Claims

I was thinking that the easiest way to test the light wind ability of a kite would be to wait for a day with absolutely zero wind and on a large open sandy beach stand on the back of a truck going a constant 5mph (4knots) and see if the kite will fly? At that speed you could have people jogging wit...

Re: Possible to go downwind faster than the wind?

but in your research, i prefer the "real world " approach, and the easiest would be to use a GPS and the excellent polar graph proposed by rnelias, which includes all parameters in one result ... I think a gps and some basic understanding of trigonometry could give you a pretty good idea. looking u...

Re: Possible to go downwind faster than the wind?

your video is no dead downwind, and , since not dead downwind, is feasible with a standard boat or a kite using a static sail; But principle remains the same indeed for dead downwind, you just need a mechanical driving system to move the sail actively and get the same illustration as your video ......

Re: Possible to go downwind faster than the wind?

I came across this interesting animation of the concept, it is a bit counter intuitive beause there should technically be no real wind to drive you but this explains why. It seems the sail or wing has to be at a different angle to the direction of travel to make this possible. https://www.youtube.co...

Re: Possible to go downwind faster than the wind?

You can go way faster than the wind in downwind VMG yes, also on surf gear and not only AC75s. In this thread we are talking about a vessel going dead downwind, using a kite - is it possible to go faster than the wind now? 8) Peter For light winds, say 10 knots, what would you say the best angle of...

Re: Acceptance of Prices in kitesurfing

Let’s say 8-11 or something Rebel,XR what ever… Prices new 1200 euro…. Prices feel not ok. Used: around 900 euro … Prices feel not ok. If you are paying 900 for a used kite that is 1200 new you are paying way too much. I have purchased kites that retail at 1200 for about 600 brand new at the end of...

Re: Kitesurfer dies after slamming into wall of home in Fort Lauderdale

I think this tragic accident highlights the need to have a large beach to launch and land from, you simply should not launch a kite without atleast 30 meters of open space downwind. If there isnt space to pull the safety on your kite without it hitting something then you are likely to hit something ...
