Re: Kitesurfer dies after slamming into wall of home in Fort Lauderdale

A video of the accident. RIP, Fred! https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/national-international/kite-surfer-dies-after-colliding-into-building-in-fort-lauderdale/2537028/ It looks like he might have been saved if he had pulled the safety while he was getting dragged down the beach before he was lofted. Ma...

Re: Bad news, prices are going up

Does anyone know what the approximate mark up shops put on kites (before taxes). I am guessing it must be 30% +

Re: Bad news, prices are going up

As prices rise the incentive to undercut by cutting costs will increase. Brand sponsored riders on a salary are probably going to be the first thing to get cut. I think it is very questionable if sponsored riders increase sales.

Re: Wingfoil versus Kitefoil?

I have not Wing foiled but I would say it probably has the edge over kite foiling in waves and ocean swell. If you live in a location with nice waves and consistent winds then wing foiling might be the better choice especially if launches are difficult. There is a lot of marketing hype around wing f...

Re: Why are Kites so damn expensive

If the design and build quality is good then I am pretty sure Reedin will sell a few kites. The idea of selling an all round kite (which would appeal to joe average kiter) that is used by one of the top kiters in the world in competition is a very smart marketing move. You ride the super model you a...

Re: Why are Kites so damn expensive

I love the super modern up to date theories being quoted here! Anyway back on subject I'm not sure Reedin shows how easy it is to enter the industry. You would kind of expect that a combination of one of the best known names in the sport together with a top designer would be a pretty good start for...

Re: Why are Kites so damn expensive

I have never had any problem buying this years or last years kites (new) at half retail price. There are plently of ways to buy new or virtually new kites cheaply use them for a year and then sell them for virtually what you purchased them for. Kitesurfing doesnt have to be expensive if you are flex...

Sorry to hear this. I've been in a situation where I almost drowned from exhaustion. Brings back memories reading that. Very sad. Which beach?

edit, just realised this is an old thread. Still no less sad to read about.

Re: Another UK Fatality

We may never know what happened and why he couldnt hold on to the harness. Exhaustion from heavy seas (the report suggest -10ft waves and having kited on this beach I would say that is a Big swell to have to swim in and there are rip tides here), exhaustion after being tumbled by waves in boots befo...

Re: Why is Reedin Kites so damn expensive

I would say that given it is a brand founded by a rider who many consider to be the No 1 kitesurfer in the history of the sport the price isnt that outlandish - especially if the build quality is similar. It will be interesting to see how well it does - the only other rider/brand is Epic kites and D...
