Re: First directional board - advise needed

I like fish shapes. They tend to be wide, which makes jibing easier. The wide tails help with efficiency. Quads are great. If you end up getting a board with thrusters, try putting twinfins (lots of options if Futures fin boxes) on it to get rid of the thruster drag. Boards with rocker will ride slo...

Re: North 2023 exploded on the beach

Black dacron can heat up when left on the beach. So likely greater than 8 psi. The weak link maybe from where the strut webbing was sewn to the leading edge. The vendor should have used tape whenever a needle and thread goes through fabric, but perhaps didn't' to save $ and #. I wouldn't expect anyt...

Re: Theft Story? Tell Yours

I put my foilboard by the water's edge. I walked back to my kite to launch it. Walked back to my board with the kite in the air, board was no longer there. Turns out some non kiter kids picked it up and walked away with it. I was able to retrieve it but ever since them I am nervous leaving my board ...

Re: Swimming back in

The rule of thumb is never go out farther than you can swim. Best to let someone know where you are, and when you plan on returning. If there are currents, best to be informed of the tides before heading out. For swimming back in you can try to minimize risk: wetsuit: warm enough to be in the water ...

Re: Kite size for low but not ultra low wind foiling

I have the gen2 BRM Cloud 9M and I am 200#. I like it. It is light so doesn't fall out of the sky like kites with struts. It is small enough that you can keep the kite moving to generate apparent wind. My impression is the top end is like a 11M c-kite. I would agree with the size range that you are ...

Re: Learning on older gear. Advice?

I guess I should order some new valves and get that thing in the air. The valves are fine, the problem is the valves de-laminate. Buy a $13 tube of Aquaseal FD and glue the valves back on, problem solved (enough for 2 kites). Buying new valves is cost prohibitive. All slingshot valves do this. But ...

Re: Learning on older gear. Advice?

13M Fuel is not a good size to learn on. Nothing wrong with c-kites. But they have no depower. And the big ones have a narrow wind range. For learning, I would think a 7M, 9M fuel would be better. I don't have experience on the 2010 Octanes, only c-kite non sle models. How long are your flying lines...

Re: 20m LEI Kites - Its Time

My 21-26M flysurfer kites have a sweet spot in 10-15k.

I want a 4 line c-kite.

Two options, 1) go vintage, or 2) make your own.
