I have an 1:15 min drive to get to the surf, or a 1 minute drive to get to our bay conditions with windswell. Foildrive has relegated my kitefoil gear to gathering dust, the swell riding with nothing in you hands is brilliant. It’s a cross between downwind and surfing without the logistics required ...
A foil kite will sink once any air leaks out. I’ve used Peaks and if you don’t relaunch them quick they are below the surface.
Could be that only the bar floats are on the surface now, and the weight of the kite might pull them under too.
You mean the LE collapses under load? Cant see how this would ever be connected to strutless or how many struts.... BUT, if one strut the design is often light, meaning the LE could be less stiff, and maybe even thinner which makes it much worse in terms of stiffness - but it will perform a lot bet...
Would corrosion be a problem with aluminium in fresh water? You still have possible corrosion between the stainless screws and alloy parts, but nowhere near the problem when used in salt water. Tef gel should solve any issues long term. Axis use alloy fuselages, they looked at carbon but the result...
Agree on proning... Indeed, this is the best use case. But for some people like me, living in low wind conditions, FD for Winging is a game changer. So I just want to see how far FD can be pushed towards smaller boards. I have large Wing board and 32L prone board. don't want to buy 3rd board. thus ...
Just no point, the reason to use a sinker is to get the weight down and more manoeuvrable, but now you want to add over 4kgs to the board, doesn’t make sense.
I lost interest in winging with Foildrive, too much sh!t to deal with for little gain. Proning with Foildrive is where it’s at.
My go to for light wind is 6lts under my body weight (80kgs), 5’3 x22 and just under 5kgs. My biggest wing is a 5mtr and I get going in about 8-9 knots, any lighter and it’s a struggle just standing on the board. But, I use a big wing, 1440sqcm, it’s thin and fast for its size and carves well. I can...
I'm sick to F*king death of wing foil getting shoved down my neck by every kite company, pro rider, social media etc on the assumption that hey kite is cancelled and you all love wing now. The hydrofoil section of KITEforum is the last pure refuge of kite foilers. Probably best to get used to it, t...
Doesn't flag well...half of the winging fun is gone? I really dislike that same ozone handle for all their wings. Its soft, small and wiggly. Would love to know what to do if sand gets in those complex chambers inside the wing. It’s designed for racing and maybe jumping, not for use in the surf zon...
