Re: Where to buy your kite!? (Choosing manufacturer & retailer)

As a beginner I get LOTS of freebie help from my local shop (which is actually probably classified as a regional, since they have multiple stores in the south); That help and the introductions with the local kiteboarders is worth a lot more than the $50-100 I would have saved by buying my gear from ...

Re: Props to Monkey Kites and U-Stick valves...

I happen to really like the cabrinha valve & was wondering what the communitie's experience was in replacing the 9mm valve that comes with the kite with a U-Stick cabrinha style valve?

Re: Beginner Board: Spark, Rival, NBL or other?

my 2c from a fellow beginner. I bought a JL Flight Deck light wind board. It is really easy to get up on and it got me riding upwind very quickly. I use it in all wind ranges that I kite in (11m Sligshot T3 & 17m Contra). I have had a couple of really good kiters ride it and say that it does not rel...

Re: Require a bit of help if anyone has 5

I am a beginner also and I can vouch for what another poster said - I am 80-85kg depending on the day and have a 17m Contra and a lightwind board. For our conditions I wish I had a 14m. But I ride often with about a 105kg guy who LOVES his 17m Contra and big lightwind board. We often have days that ...

Re: Kite flipped inside out .. what to do??

I have an 08 contra 17 and have had this happen to me (in light winds, near shore - I just walked it in and walked up the lines to grab the kite). Do I understand that I should grab onto one of the trailing edge lines and pull the safety that releases the bar from the safety loop and release the saf...

Re: Please! Be responsible!

Perspective of a beginner (who has been through lessons). I first tried kiteboarding 3+ years ago with a C kite and tried for a while and put it away. Last fall I came back to it with a bow-kite and was immediately hooked! It was so much easier and felt so much safer. I bought a new kite this spring...

Re: Reduce accidents - Use the right equipment, better judgement

Are kite manufacturers, in their zeal to have the highest performance kites, exaggerating the top end range of their kites? I just read that one recent accident entailed a person flying a 10m kite in winds averaging 20+ and gusting over 30. In that wind, I would definiitely be flying my 8m, not my ...

Re: Jimmy Lewis Flight Deck vs Spleene Door - Very Light Winds

Why would you put boots on a lightwind board? Isn't that sort of self defeating? http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a67/ToastSYN/LWS--.jpg The door64 is on the floor in the shot. We have some 154's on the way. Honestly if your comparing boards it really depends on a lot of different things. -Whats yo...

Re: Jimmy Lewis Flight Deck vs Spleene Door - Very Light Winds

So I just ordered the Flight Deck from Real -- the price was just too good of a deal. Should have it before Memorial Day weekend so hopefully I'll check back with a beginner's report :)
