Re: Leading Edge bladder repair advise

Hello Saxie, I’ve repaired 2 kites with the same problem, on both bladder ends… I did it wrong at first, which was really unnerving, because nobody like to see his kite falling deflated from the sky! Then I found a way to improve my repair: first a good glue (aquaseal), then a way to lay flat the a...

Re: Lightwind kite issue, or poor technique?

Sorry...I should also add (to respond to Herman) that being yanked forward wasn't during dives/loss of control moments. I'm pretty used the the kite dropping out of the sky in lulls (or due to screw-ups on my part), and I'm generally able to manage/accept those kind of power changes. ... I would be...

Re: Northwest ireland (Donegal) spotsearch with south/sourthwesterly

Was there’s six years ago and I kited off Portnoo in NW winds. We walked a beach around Sligo that looked like it would be decent in SW. There used to be a kite hostel in Achil. If still there I bet you could ask them where local spots are up in donegal area. Enjoy- we had an absolutely fantastic ti...

Re: Forecast Websites and/or Apps

Where in Florida? I am curious how good the NWS wind forecasts are on the peninsula? Up in panhandle they have definitely improved over past 5 years. Still don’t predict thermal winds too great though. I use WindAlert. They have free and pay levels. ——————————— I live in Orlando. Cocoa beach has ma...

Re: Kite advancements over the last 10 years

Single line safety is now standard on all (almost all?) kites and bars -much more reliable depower Bridles are more compact so fewer bridle wraps around wing tips Below bar untwist is almost universal There are better kite lines but that’s not universal I think kites from 2015/16 on tend to be bette...

Re: Vmg

If you pick a good sea breeze day then you will see 10-20 deg shifts about ever 2-4 minutes. You should be able to see these very clearly when riding upwind. - they should also be very clear in your data. There are lots of smaller shifts happening but they will average out. It’s usually lots harder ...

Re: wind statistics that account for thermal wind

True, thermal winds can often be forecasted, other times not at all. Seabreezes can either kick in, meaning 15 knots onshore wind or more, or not at all, meaning 3 knots of wind or slight offshore wind. Impossible to predict - only if there is a chance or not (warm land colder water etc) is sometim...
