Re: Stringer in small foilbord?

I used two cedar stringers, made it really easy to shape the board, and I did not connect them to the boxes, but the board is the depth of the boxes, so almost all the load is transferred to the stringers through the carbon and glass and the boxes were easy to insert after putting the first layer of...

Re: Plywood surf foil wing

I have made several wings past years all just have 1 layer of carbon and epoxy laminated ply, damn things are indestructible. Recently laminated 1/4 inch XPS yes the pink stuff with a wood insert where the bolts and hand pressed/pegged carbon on with 2 layers of glass over that, that also seems inde...

Re: Pocket board building

From watching video of XPS board building and my experience, final shaping is with 60 grit sandpaper, final surface is very rough and has small tears which the epoxy gets into and should help with the sheering problem, I used wood stringers glued to the XPS with PU glue so epoxy also has the wood to...

Why anyone would choose Xps as core vs Eps is not understood.
XPS is Waterproof vs EPS Not so much, Pink Ridged verses White crumbly.
Both are cheap, both can be sanded down and shaped fast.

Re: Pocket board building

I put the foot Hook/strap insert in after I pegged the carbon to the board then glassed over x2, the florescent play dough was easy to see, plus the board is painted cant tell I did that.

Re: Pocket board building

Finely finished my pocket board, just under 3kg, 107cm x 46cm x 3.5 cm. Straight hand layup no vacuum bagging. XPS foam, 2 cedar stringers, 2 layers carbon and 2 layers glass then paint. Love how the boxes turned out, PLAYDOUGH ROCKS, filled the boxes with it then carbon/glassed over, then routered ...

Re: Foil Bridle Line repair

Just use some kiteline same diameter, darning needle feed into itself then out tighten, simple stitch down line. the other side is the tricky but easy, make the loop bigger than the old line just a bit and pull the line threw till right size, tighten recheck, if right stitch. Don't stitch all the wa...

Re: Pocket board building

Decided I needed a pocket board for a new large floaty wing I made. XPS foam, cedar stringers, 110cm by 46cm so far pressed some 6 oz carbon on top and for pads. Plan for the bottom carbon down bottom and one layer around box. Planning on glassing top and bottom with 2 layers of 6oz glass which will...
