Re: Iceland Kitesurfing & Surfing

mwuahaha, what a load of rubbish. Those two places linked to above are lagoons that fall out from Vatnajökull glacier that just erupted (ohhh...well a volcano underneath the glacier, just like Eyjafjallajökull that caused all the problems last year). On a normal day those are just turists attraction...

Re: Iceland Kitesurfing & Surfing

5/3mm wetsuit is fine. At least that's what I was wearing yesterday. It's pretty cold these days but during summertime that's what we always use. I just bring out the drysuit for wintertime sessions. There's only 1 or 2 guys selling surfboards/kitegear and they don't really keep stock. So bring your...

Re: Which kiteboard is most like a snowboard?

Try out Ocean Rodeo Mako. The huge concave gives you that edge grip you know from snowboarding and the rounded tip outline a very carvy feel (you also know from snowboarding). The stance moves also more forward riding it and feels quite similare to riding a snowboard. At least that's what it felt to...

Re: snowkite boards vs snowboards

Don't care what it's called - if I could get rid of 'edge burn' I'd be happy ! A semi pro snowboarder once looked at my board and said it was the worst case of edge burn he'd ever seen. In my mind I thought snowkite specific board meant less sidecut, true centered stance and better lamination. Afte...

Re: ghetto rig

Good job!

If only I head a springsteel wire carabiner, soldering iron/tin, saw, epoxy, etc. with me on the beach I'd be good to go.

Where did you get electricity for the soldering iron 5 min. before riding - gas powered ? :D

sorry - had to say it. Creative thinking and a good repair job.

Re: Europe is closed !

Latest update: Less activity now. Ash clowd now below radar at 10.000 feet. To soon to tell though if its just taking a break or what. KLM airline have been doing tests and are saying its safe to fly in this small amount of ash (like today). Aeronautical authority in Europe are hoping things are get...

Re: Europe is closed !

No migrations yet, apart from the ones for economy/uninployment reasons. Toby, your right. Everyone is shitscared about it's neighbor, the volcano Katla. In the last centuries it has happend 3 times, that Katla goes off within 1-2 years after this one. So we might be talking days, months, 1 or 2 yea...

Re: Europe is closed !

... Story has it that some tricky Icelanders decided to get back at the folks who want to default on their loans, i.e., most of northern Europe so they set about doing some very strange Icelandic dances around the base of the volcano with the hopes of gettin it to explode. Guess it worked. What do ...

Re: Europe is closed !

Some pictures of the mess causing this. Clouds reaching 30.000 feet and being blown over to Europe. Two figher jets in Finland were caught in it and it ruined their engines (before the no-flyzone alert was given). Unless you have a sandblast schedule for the inside of you aircraft engine. Stay away ...
