Re: Kite size for low but not ultra low wind foiling

Getting a bit off topic but I would agree that for the lowest wind a down loop is needed/best technique . My low end is always better with down loops, no exceptions. However, for learning the jibe itself I can definitely see an argument to go “over 12”. Just make sure you have enough wind when lear...

Re: Ultra light wind foiling kite for the just past beginner foiler.

With a typical no strut or 1 strut LEI you probably aren't going to be able to go lower than about 7-8kn. I have a 12m Boxer for light wind, and that's as low as I can go on it. A bigger kite would have more power of course but it would likely fall out of the sky at that wind speed. If you want to g...

Re: Upgrade or Update

Thanks......yes heavy for sure , slow I don't mind within reason as log as the fact doesn't slow my progression. Last week I had a look at a Lift foil, it seemed very nicely made.... how robust are they? I don't have any experience with your specific foil, but there is no reason a heavy foil should...

Re: Kite size for 10-16 knots - a beginner foiler

If money is no object, I would go with an 11m and 8m at your weight and experience for that range. A 10m in 16kn is going to be a lot to handle. For comparison's sake, I'm 90kg and I ride a 5m in 16 kn. If you are just going to get one kite, I agree with others that a 10m is probably best. Just make...

Re: Learning to kitefoil

Others have already said it all, but I will add another vote for a front foot hook or hooks. They allow you to keep the board on your feet easily in choppy water so you don't waste so much time on the water start and they aren't going to break your ankle in a bad fall like straps. The downside is th...

Re: Single strut vs surf kites

I’ve never heard anyone claim 3-strut surf kites drift better than one-strut or strutless or single-skin kites. They will be more stable, sure, because they maintain their structure better. This is a key point. All my research has indicated that surf kites are purpose built to be able to drift down...

Re: Switching Stance?

I made it a point when I was learning to do everything in both regular and switch. I have found it rewarding to be able to do all the standard maneuvers in both. Despite this, I'm way better riding toeside regular than switch, particularly riding down the line in waves. I ride waves frontside regard...

Re: help with turns

I dont think most jibe "heel to toe" and then carve, nor that most find it easier . 8) Peter I could be wrong, but I think you are an outlier here. Everyone I have ever spoken to about it thinks the heel to toe footswitch is easier when learning. Most of the guys I see foiling at my beach don't eve...

Re: help with turns

All good advice above. I will just add that for me the breakthrough came when I stopped thinking about it as a “foot switch” and started thinking about it as a “stance switch.” The former leads with the foot, which makes you unstable for that brief second when both feet are forward. The latter start...

Re: help with turns

How many sessions did it take your to foot switch? I'm at the stage now and i want to keep my expectations real lol When I first started foiling, I decided I wanted to try my best to be completely ambidextrous, so I worked on my weaker side at the expense of developing my stronger side quicker. It ...
