Made my laugh. Round here if you park your car you have to leave it visibily empty (i.e. trunk and all forward compartments e.g. glove box and change compartments etc.) in the open position. If you leave them closed or with the lid down chances are sooner or later someone breaks a window to see if t...

Please don't bait or respond to Mulholland ... I for one find it tiresome having to scroll through page after page of nonsense to find posts on the original topic of the thread. On the thread, we are having similar issues in the UK. What I think is a bit unfair on my coast (Suffolk) is that we do re...

Flying with kite gear

I agree that when booking you need to consider the cost, convenience and reliability (is the airline going to bankrupt or will they be on strike) in the round. It is an obvious point but a £100 ticket plus £50 for your kitegear is more expensive than £120 with kitegear includ...

Hmm. I would be cautious certainly at first and even for the first few times. Apart from the launch spot, can you get to safety at other points around the shore? I would also check the wind very carefully, the fact that it is excavated might create a "hole" in the wind and/or turbulence. Let us know...

You don't say which island. I have a mate who travelled out there last year and didn't think much (either of the kite spots or the untramelled development) of Boa Vista. You may be better off sticking to Sal. Good luck and I hope you have a great time.

My wetsuit works fine ...

I have been out throughout the UK winter togged up as follows - rash vest - 5/3 wetsuit (Neilpryde) - North impact vest - GUL sailing splashtop over the impact vest (great at cutting the wind) - booties - neoprene hat under my helmet - no gloves I have no problems at all with the cold - 3 hour sessi...

Crowded

I agree ... it's the attitude not whether you are a newbie. That's my observation. I am a relative newcomer, yet before I go to a spot I find out what the local rules are and I ask about things if there is someone on the beach before me. My favourite spot is Langennith in South Wales. To my horror t...

Brazilian experience

Went to Brasil in December. First up, the people I was in contact with at that end said don't bother with golf bags. Apparently the check in staff at Fortaleza roll their eyes and laugh. Where kiting is popular, the game is up. I flew London to Sao Paulo on BA and then from SP to Fortaleza on TAM. N...

Where to buy

I buy from the kitesurf instructor who taught me. He is exclusive to one of the major brands (not one of the brands mentioned as being "only for shop fronts"). I get what I would consider a very fair price and he sets it up for me, answers questions etc. I have had a few warranty type issues that we...
