Re: Brancaster Beach, Norfolk, UK

The London group is greatly reinvigorated in recent times which has its pluses and minuses. I am for the time being one of the directors/organisers of the new BKSA Affiliated Club we have set up. We will arrange to re-mail our members next time there is a SW to remind them of the Brancaster zoning. ...

Re: Kiteboarding in Saudi Arabia? For women? Serious?

This doesn't look plausible. I am recently back from Saudi on a business trip. As far as I can make out: 1. Women who go out in Saudi have to be chaperoned by a man. 2. Go out hair uncovered and legs showing in Jeddah and you will get hissed at. Try the same in Riyadh and you will be detained by the...

Re: Strength V weight for holding down power.

Both are a factor. I have lots of guests at my kite house. For sure the 6ft 2" / 90 kgs guys can hold down more than the 5' 4" / 60 kg. gals, even if the latter are fitter. But I have been going to the gym lots over the last year and converted a lot of fat to muscle (same weight). And I can definite...

Re: Expats and lifestyle numbers growing?

A few years back I decided I wanted to do something different rather than work away until 65 (or is it 67 now), collect my gold watch and retire. So I planned ahead and set up the Cape Town Kite Club lodge business and grew it up to the point where it is (almost!) breaking even. Then last December I...

Re: Los Angeles in February

@Slappysan - I have been to SoCal a few times myself and various friends have worked there year-round. My own experience and more importantly the consensus of those who have kited elsewhere and then done a year or two in LA is that the kiting there sucks big time ... there is basically no wind. Safe...

Re: 3 M Liability Kiting Insurance for 39 Euro's?

I don't want to dis-respect VDWS but forum-members may be interested to know that British Kitesports has tried twice to work with its insurance carrier to expand our cover to allow non-UK residents to benefit from our insurance (which for regulatory reasons is stapled to and forms part of our member...

Re: Cape Town Visitors - A reminder about manners

... The guide by Van Hunk should be posted on paper at all the kitehouses and windsport guesthouses, which are now unsustainably plentiful...making the water a busier place than a mall on the 23rd December ... We take this very seriously and have a guide to ride covering general rules of the road, ...

Re: Woo 20m Video Rhosneigr today, can Patrick beat the recor

Sunday was monumental at Rhos-vegas. I had a "closer to God" moment when I surfed a wave in and took the tension out of my lines resulting in a kite drop at the mouth of the bay, following which the kite got munched by the roller I was on. Bobbing about out the back and so grey and driving with spra...

Re: Where to go for waves in November

Cape Town - season is just starting then and most people don't go until mid-December or even January but November time can be really good and uncrowded. Wind might not be quite as consistent but in two weeks you'll get a lot of great days. Cape Verde could be good as the season is also just startin...

Re: pay to kite a spot in uk

That economic rent term is on the mark. This issue isnt a private land issue - it is a private sea issue - being below the mean high tide mark and above the mean low tide mark enjoying kitesurfing on the sea and it still being classed as trespassing if you have not paid a fee. Local told me land re...
