Re: Tubercle wings and my moulding process

Hi Fluidity, How do you approach the wing design? Do you take a foil and add the tubercles so they are bigger/thicker than then main foil or do you rather carve out the in between the tubercles so you have a thinner edge than normal. Cheers Dirk Hi Dirk, I think I do it differently than most other ...

Re: New super high AR wings?

Adding a bit more: A chord tapered low aspect wing turns very easily. Double the span and halve the chord for each step of span it will also turn easily. But that shorter span low aspect ratio wing will be more draggy than the double span one. So then you shorten the chord of the high span wing even...

Re: New super high AR wings?

My new foils are all high aspect. Building a 1.33 meter span foil at the moment. At the 3D printed model finishing stage currently. Axis have ART high aspect series. I'm making my current one specifically for pumping. High aspect not so bad to turn so long as you taper the chord. Being short chord t...

Re: How to stop an upside down board equaling a hole in the wing canopy

I use a long leash on the board and always keep hold of the front of the wing in any crashes. A year and a half of winging now, I have 5 wings and the only hole is on my old Naish from when I was trying to get up on my old intermediate wind surf board with no foil or dagger board. I managed to pop t...

Re: Wingsurfing wing construction

Interesting, their site says "The Kitewing is a hand held wingsail designed for sailing on low friction surfaces." and talks about ice, pavement, beach. Their site doesn't talk about foils, not in any of their promo videos, etc. My impression is this kind of thing failed in the water back in the da...

Re: Naish S27 Foils

Interesting they claim it to be high aspect. That chunky fuselage scarf joint doesn't take up much of it's chord. I think there is still a lot of maturing to go of the market. So many new people still coming to wingsurfing just needing easy gear, vs those who can pump up lower area higher performanc...

Re: Bi Wing Foil

https://youtu.be/wxozaU2Bu54 I think the narator of that video dumbed it down so much I didn't trust his answers. However, the short answer is that a biplane instead of having 2 front wing drag creating vortices, has 4. And you can get more lift in a wing if you want it with a thick profile anyway....

Re: Bi Wing Foil

I'm not sure why? I'm 115kg and my smallest design so far, in a highish aspect 765sqcm wing has too much manouverability for my likeing, the roll stability is very minimal. In a biplane design you have even less and also, you are running a non compressible fluid between two winds, it's not a good id...

Re: Small boards are often tricky....

After getting good with boards = my weight + 10~15L ....I really struggled with boards = my weight or -10L. The board doesn't really sink or float. Goes in and out of the water which feels very unstable. And once flying it doesn't really feel like a short board. Then I tried the <extreme> with a bo...
