Re: Splicing kite lines for beginners

Can you make the Brummel splice with a guitar chord instead of the fid? Yes. You don't need a fid. You will want a pen/pencil/something similar, preferably with a sharp but rounded end to nicely slide thru the dyneema so each side has roughly equal strands. Obviously a pencil is not working with a ...

Re: The Most Important Skill To Develop For the Entry & Future Kite Foiler

I tell this to every person learning to foil. It's NOT front foot pressure you need. It's front hip pressure. Stand upright with a wide stance and put your hip on the edge of a couch. Now push the couch using only that hip. That's the forward hip pressure and posture you will need to feel when learn...

Re: Switch Helium 3

I just got my Switch Helium V3 16m last week and rode it for the first time tonight on the race hydrofoil(580sq cm front wing) in 8-11mph wind. I'm 210lbs and my hydro doesn't get going until you have forward speed, period. Once up it's game on thou! A few experienced hydro guys even have trouble wi...

Re: Anyone else dodging "flying fish"?

How about "dead fish"? :o In May I was on my last few tacks at our local launch lit up on a 15m having a blast and I felt something hit my calf. Looked down and saw blood everywhere. Immediately came in and I had a 2 inch deep wound and went straight to the hospital a few blocks over from our launch...

Switch Element/Nitro Confusion on Bigger Air Kite

Started twin tipping again today. Really strong wind with lulls at 18mph and gusts up to 22mph. My 2013 12m switchblade is slower than hell for some reason. Holds air and still jumps nice, landing loops are challenging to get her a full loop and I just got smoked doing some hand drags today. S...

Re: My Beginner Journal

Couple things...there's tons to learn so ask questions. Pay close attention to the weather and wind speed. If you have a consistent 15mph wind that is ideal, flying the kite like you did in 10-12mph is fine too, you won't be riding in that wind but you can body drag and learn the ins and outs of kee...

Why are the screws angled into the deep tuttle?

What is the reasoning that the deep tuttle has screws going into the tuttle at a 6.5 deg angle? Why not either make the top flat or just make the tuttle so that the screws come into the barrel nuts straight down? I'm possibly going to make my own carbon fiber insert and I'm trying to engineer this t...

Re: What are the white patches on boards?

Thanks for the explanation. Is the typical surfboard eps foam a much harder/denser construction that what you find at the hardware store? I'm entertaining the idea for a build but I went and looked at the eps foam at Lowe's and I could easily push my finger into it.

Re: Cabrinha Contra 17 or 19m?

I don't ride larger kites anymore b/c I am foiling but I twin tipped on the 19m Contra months ago in 12-13knots on a 145 TT and it was fast turning enough to not even be an issue if that worries you. We have a local guy that rigs big always and he is about your weight maybe even a little less and he...

What are the white patches on boards?

I'm curious what the white stuff is and why this is a preferred look for some people? I know zero about board building, but I know you have a base material that is foam and you wrap it in fiberglass/carbonfiber and wet is out with epoxy, then typically I believe you apply a hot coat which is a diffe...
